Abstract
A trailer hitch cover is disclosed comprising apparatus for protecting the open end of a tube hitch. The hitch comprises a hollow member such as a square hollow bar extending in back of a vehicle, the tube being adapted to receive an arm from a trailer which fits into the tube and is secured therein by means of a hitch pin that passes through the opening in the tube and the arm. The apparatus of the invention comprises a member having an adjustable extension which may be inserted inside of the tube hitch and projects towards the open end of the tube and to which is secured a plug which seals the end of the tube. The adjustable extension has an opening for receiving the hitch pin and permits the exact positioning of the plug in the end of the tube in order to provide a seal therefore.

4852902 - Towing hitch cover - Owned by The Fisher Group, Inc. (Canton, MI)

A decorative and protective cover for covering the end of a towing hitch tube which is exposed when the drawbar that is used for towing a trailer is removed from the hitch tube. The cover is a one-piece molded plastic part that has a covering portion comprising an end wall that is disposed in end covering relation to the end of the hitch tube and an integral attaching portion that projects from a central region of the cover end wall for releasably attaching the cover to the hitch tube. The cover further includes a top wall and side walls that are in top and lateral covering relation to the hitch tube. It also has a partial bottom wall that is an underlying relation to the hitch tube but contains a centrally located notch that provides access to the attaching portion for unlatching the attaching portion from the hitch tube when it is desired to remove the cover. The attaching portion comprises a tubular wall fitting closely into the hitch tube and an integral catch that snaps into a hole in the hitch tube which is used for pinning the drawbar to the hitch tube when the drawbar is in use. The cover also contains covering provisions for covering safety chain attachment holes that are provided to either side of the hitch tube. Advantageously the cover is fabricated as an injection molded plastic part from a tough, durable plastic such as polypropylene.

6199892 - Convertible cover assembly for receiver hitch

Convertible receiver hitch cover that fits at least first and second receiver tubes having respective first and second bores of respective first and second cross-sections. The cover includes a faceplate having a periphery, a front side and a backside. A shaft extends from the backside of the faceplate, wherein the shaft has a first end proximal to the faceplate and a second end distal from the faceplate. The shaft has a cross-section corresponding to the cross-section of the first bore of the first receiver tube. A removable spacer is adapted to fit over the shaft and has a cross-section corresponding to the cross-section of the second bore of the second receiver tube.

5560631 - Trailer hitch cover

A cover for a receiver-type trailer hitch includes a first panel which visually masks upwardly facing portions of the hitch assembly, a second panel which masks rearwardly facing portions of the assembly, and means are further provided for holding the cover in place. In the preferred embodiment, the first and second panels are joined at right angles to one another, and both are shaped to tightly conform dimensionally to receiver-type hitches having central, rearwardly projecting draw tubes. The panels are preferably constructed of a relatively thin, substantially rigid material such as molded plastic. Various means are disclosed for holding the cover in place, including bolts with hand-operated fasteners, hook-and-loop fasteners, magnets and straps. The cover accommodates various hitch assemblies having different class ratings, and score marks on inwardly facing surfaces are provided to trim right and left ends of the cover to adjust the width of the cover to ensure that it fits snugly between two vertical plates typically associated with the mounting of the hitch assembly.
