A superior end wrap comprising a particular type of open-celled polyurethane foam of specified porosity and thickness which foam has been treated with certain types of weak carboxylic acids. Also disclosed is a permanent waving process using said acid treated end wraps.
A process of recofiguring keratin fibre is disclosed. The process includes rolling, winding, curling, looping lapping, folding, twirling, bending, curving, twisting, coiling, twining, entwining or straightening the keratin fibre or leaving the keratin fibre unchanged. A reducing agent is then applied to the keratin fibre to reduce cystine disulfide linkages and other susceptible linkages in the keratin fibre. An oxidizing agent is applied to the keratin fibre having the reducing agent, to set cystine disulfide linkages in the keratin fibre. The reducing agent and the oxidizing agent are then removed from the keratin fibre by rinsing the keratin fibre.
By providing high absorbent end wraps staturated with a disulfide, the action of the reducing agent on the porous ends of the hair is controlled, typical overprocessing of the hair ends is eliminated, and a uniform permanently waved head of hair is obtained. Preferably the disulfide saturated into the end wraps is the disulfide of the mercaptan used in the permanent waving lotion.
An end wrap comprising a substrate containing hair-waving chemicals. Also disclosed is a method for waving hair comprising applying end wraps having hair-waving chemicals to hair sections, activating the end wraps and dissolving the end wraps. A kit for use in the method is included.
A hair-waving product comprises a polyurethane film containing a hair-waving composition which is released from the polyurethane film when the film is contacted with wet hair. The invention also relates to a process of hair waving comprising rolling the polyurethane film into wet hair and allowing sufficient hair-waving treatment time to release the hair-waving composition.
