An exterior window unit is adapted to cover an opening in a building wall. An adapter sill member has a vertical and a horizontal section adapted to be secured, respectively, to an exterior vertical and a horizontal top surface of a fixed sill in the building wall, the adapter sill member having a first engaging means extending along its lower edge. A frame sill of the unit has a mounting means having a vertical and a horizontal portion adapted to be secured, respectively, to the vertical and horizontal sections of the adapter sill member, the frame sill having a second mounting means having a second engaging means which engages the first engaging means.
A combination casing and frame for use both as the window casing and as a storm window frame for a double-hung structural window and adapted to be mounted directly against the frame of the structural window includes unitary top, side, and sill members, each of the top and side members having a casing portion adapted to overlie a portion of the structural window frame, structure for slidably mounting sashes on the side members, latch-engaging structure provided in the side members, and latches movably mounted on opposite sides of the sill member in retractable engagement with the latch-engaging structure, for mounting the sill member on the side members and demounting the sill member.
A window sash assembly which comprises an outer metal sash, an inner sash positioned and assembled indoors adjacent to said outer sash and a peripheral edge member positioned about the inner end of said inner sash to cover the adjacent open end of an indoor wall member, is disclosed. Said inner sash includes a main portion of adiabatic material which integrally includes said peripheral edge member at the inner end portion thereof to thereby form a sash main frame extending from said peripheral edge member to the indoor pieces of said outer sash. Metal upper and lower rail frames and metal left-hand and right-hand door boxing frames are positioned along about the inner periphery of said sash main frame. Said sash main frame is formed into a framework and said upper and lower rail frames and left-hand and right-hand door boxing frames are formed into a framework within said framework of the sash main frame.
In a double sash structure comprising a first sash facing to the outside and a second sash facing to the inside, a window frame of the first sash is formed of a metallic material and a window frame of the second sash, which is formed of a non-metallic material having a low heat conductivity, is disposed contiguously to the window frame of the first sash. By virtue of the low heat conductivity of the window frame of the second sash, lowering of the temperature in the room and formation of dew by condensation of moisture can be prevented. Accordingly, a double sash structure excellent in the heat-insulating property and having a beautiful appearance and an improved strength, which can be readily assembled, can be provided.
