Abstract
In a device for indicating a preset amount of relative movement between two points, an indicator sleeve axially movable in a cylindrical bore in a housing fixed to one of the points remains flush with the housing until the preset amount of movement is reached at which point the sleeve pops up to give a positive, easily identifiable indication of the movement. An actuating rod which bears against and follows the second point is axially slidable in the sleeve and operates a ball bearing mechanism which locks the indicator sleeve in the retracted position. The amount of movement required to generate the discrete indication is easily variable and monitoring of the actual displacement is always available.

4936247 - Visual and tactile indication of coupling status of an integrated drive generator - Owned by Sundstrand Corporation (Rockford, IL)

An improved visual and tactile indicator (30) for indicating the status of a connection between a shaft (14) and a constant speed drive transmission (22) by a coupling mechanism (20) is disclosed. The invention utilizes a first movable member (32) which is movable along a longitudinal axis between first and second positions, the first position indicating that the shaft is connected to the rotary source of power and the second position indicating that the shaft is not connected to the rotary source of power and a second movable member (34) which is movable along a longitudinal axis between first and second positions, the second member being adjacent to the first member with the longitudinal axes being parallel. A locking mechanism (36) locks the first and second movable members longitudinally with respect to each other when the input shaft is coupled to the constant speed drive transmission by the coupling mechanism. The indicator of the present invention is immune to false indications caused by vibration or high inertial forces caused by landings of aircraft.

4155326 - Mine safety inspection indicator

A mine safety inspection indicator including a plurality of rotatable wheels having indicia printed on one side thereof and attached to a panel having windows therein so that the indicia is selectively visible through the windows, and further including slideable indicators whose position is correlated with indicia for giving further information, the wheels and slideable indicators including printing members cooperable with recording paper and a pressure member so as to provide a permanent record of a mine safety inspection; the device also includes a slideable warning panel which may be moved to a position out of view or moved to a visible position for giving a warning of a dangerous condition in a mine.

6520591 - R.B. Jun's method of openwork mining utilizing pit wall consolidation

The invention relates to the mining industry and can be used for working out mineral deposits, no matter what their thickness and dip angle are, and allows to reduce the volumes of overburden operations. The invention provides the working out the main reserves by openworks, with forming safety benches (22) on steps of an open cut. From the top view, reserves of each level (1) are being worked out by blasting descending holes in direction to working flank of an open cut with forming safety prisms near a designed contour thereof. The breaking out of safety prisms (5) is being carried out at the final stage of works on the level (1) with forming a vertical or close to vertical, slope within the level. Rocks of near-contour mass (6) in a zone of probable displacement of rocks being reinforced by injecting and/or installing prestressed anchors (8).

4709654 - Indicator for loose lug nuts

A device for indicating when a lug nut has come loose on an automobile wheel. In one embodiment, the device operates by detecting relative movement between the lug nut and the axle stud on which it is mounted. In a second embodiment, the detected relative movement is between the lug nut and the wheel itself. In the preferred embodiment, the device has a first member with an open-ended channel and second and third members slideably received in it. The second member operates in cooperation with the sides of the channel and one of the springs to hold the third member in a retracted or cocked position when the lug nut is in its preferred, tight position against the wheel. Thereafter, should the lug nut come loose and move relative to the stud, the second member will follow or move under the force of its spring outwardly to maintain contact with the free end of the stud. In doing so, the third or indicator member is released to move in the opposite direction under the force of its spring to protrude beyond the outer surface of the lug nut where it can be easily and quickly seen or felt by hand. In the second embodiment, the second or follower member abuts the wheel itself rather than the free end of the stud but otherwise operates in the same manner.

6205946 - Earthen material integrity sensing device

A sensing device and sensing process is described for indicating movement of earthen material adjacent a structure. The preferred device includes a tubular frame including a top end and a bottom end. An anchor is configured to suspend the frame from the structure with the bottom end oriented toward the earthen materials. An actuator is releasably mounted on the bottom end of the tubular frame, spanning the bottom end and configured to rest against and be supported by the earthen materials. The actuator is movable in response to movement of the earthen material relative to the structure from an inoperative position engaging and spanning the bottom end of the tubular frame to an operative position spaced from the inoperative position. A signaling device is mounted within the tubular frame and connected to the actuator. The process includes the step of attaching an anchor to the structure, and supporting the sensing device from the anchor with the actuator being movable between an inoperative position and an operative position in response to movement of the earthen material relative to the structure. The signaling device responds to movement of the actuator to the operative position to produce a signal indicating movement of the earthen material relative to the structure.
