A device for the metering of plastic raw materials of granulate, or pulverulent, or highly viscous consistency in connection with plastic materials processing machines, where a rotating metering disc at the bottom of a drum-shaped receptacle discharges fixed amounts of material at a predetermined frequency, and where the semi-circular metering pockets on the periphery of the metering disc are wiped clean by a vertically extending radially and circumferentially flexible wiper finger which dislodges any material that might otherwise adhere to the pocket flanks at the point of gravity discharge of the plastic material from the metering pockets.
A disc feeder for delivering material in controlled amounts to utilization equipment. The disc which carries material to a material discharge opening is disposed at an angle to the horizontal and the shearing baffle which controls the amount of material carried to the material discharge opening is movable from its position during normal operation to a position remote from the disc, whereby during unloading of the storage hopper the material discharges freely and quickly to a storage container. A control valve selectively directs material to one delivery conduit which leads to the utilization equipment and a second delivery conduit which leads to the storage container. The apparatus has an interlock mechanism which prevents moving the shearing baffle while material is being conducted to the utilization equipment and prevents moving the control valve to direct material to the utilization equipment while the shearing baffle is at its remote position.
The material to be metered drops onto a plate 21 which is driven in rotation. This plate 21 is provided on its edge with a cylindrical wall 22 pierced by recesses 24. The plate 21 turns in a cylinder 3 which masks the recesses 24 except at a place where a hole 5 is provided. When the recesses 24 pass opposite the hole 5 they pass behind a screen 4. Each recess 24 is emptied when it passes behind the screen 4 and is otherwise filled under the effect of centrifugal force.
A viscous material processing system comprises a feed system controller having a set of instructions to store an input set point weight or amount; sense a progressing weight or amount of material fed by the feed system; compare the progressing weight with the set point weight or amount and terminate feed from the system when the compared progressing weight is substantially equal to the set point weight or amount; and a viscous material compounding system connected to the feed system to receive material fed by the feed system.
