Abstract
A truck comprises a generally U-shaped frame and a dump body pivotally mounted forwardly on the frame and supported on a pair of laterally spaced and parallel side beams thereof. The dump body comprises four triangularly-shaped bottom wall portions converging downwardly to form an inverse pyramidal construction. A double-acting hydraulic cylinder is pivotally interconnected between the frame and dump body to selectively raise the dump body to discharge materials forwardly of the truck. An operator's cab is mounted on a forward end of one of the side beams.

4149751 - Dump truck - Owned by Societe Anonyme Secmafer (Buchelay, Mantes la Jolie,FR)

This invention relates to tip lorries. The dumper is of the type comprising a chassis frame provided with at least four carrying wheels 2, two of which at least being driving wheels, with a tipper articulated on the chassis frame about an axis 30 situated in the vicinity of one end of the chassis frame above and at the rear of the wheel axis corresponding to said end, the bottom of the tipper enveloping while it tipps a cylindrical sector surface with a radius superior to the radius of the wheels 2b situated at said end, wherein a driver's cab 28 is lodged between said wheels 2b inside the volume limited by said cylindrical sector surface. This invention is used in units with a carrying capacity approaching 200 tons.

4178647 - Four-wheeled sweeper - Owned by Elgin Sweeper Company (Elgin, IL)

A street sweeping machine is disclosed comprising a wheeled frame, a cab is supported by the frame, a dirt receiving hopper is positioned behind the cab, a conveyor is positioned adjacent the hopper and has an upper end overlying the hopper for depositing materials picked up from a roadway into the hopper. The conveyor is pivotally mounted for movement relative to the hopper and the frame. Hopper lift means is provided for rotating the hopper off of the frame from behind the cab over the cab for unloading of the picked-up materials in the hopper at a forward end of the cab. Linkage is connected between the hopper lift means and the conveyor for pivoting the conveyor on its pivot so that its upper end moves clear from its position of overlying the hopper to allow the hopper lift means to rotate the hopper free of interference from the conveyor during the lifting movement of the hopper. Ram means is also provided for operating the hopper lift means to rotate the hopper to be unloaded forward of the cab.

4230199 - Apparatus for shifting center of gravity of a work vehicle - Owned by Caterpillar Tractor Co. (Peoria, IL)

A work vehicle (10) such as, for example, a tractor (74) or loader (27) has a center of gravity (12), a body (14) and first and second continuous track assemblies ( 18,20). In the use of the tractor (74), for example, forwardly locating the center of gravity (12) can increase penetration of a bulldozer (76) on the tractor (74) during bulldozing operations. During ripping operations, penetration of a ripper (78) on the tractor (74) can be increased by rearwardly locating the center of gravity (12). Apparatus (22) is provided for controllably moving the body (14) relative to both of the track assemblies ( 18,20). Said apparatus (22) thus controllably shifts the center of gravity (12) of the tractor (74) relative to both of said track assemblies ( 18,20) for selectively increasing penetration of the ripper (78) or bulldozer (76) depending upon the operation being performed by said tractor (74).

4248447 - Vehicle suspension system - Owned by Caterpillar Tractor Co. (Peoria, IL)

The advent of relatively wide beadless tires on off-highway trucks and the like has dictated the desirability of providing a suspension system which separates the damping functions during the bounce and roll movements occurring between a truck frame and an axle assembly suspended thereunder. In particular, it is desirable to provide a soft suspension during the bounce mode of vehicle operation whereas a relatively stiff suspension is desired during the roll mode thereof. The suspension system (12) of this invention accomplishes the above by providing a first suspension (18) for damping bouncing movements (B) and a separate and isolated second, suspension (24) for damping rolling movements (R), with the second suspension (24) being disposed in a vertical plane which intersects a universal connection (16) connecting an axle assembly (11) to a vertical frame (10). The second suspension (24) includes a pair of springs (25) which are spaced outboard of the frame (10) to and in stabilizing the vehicle.

5476285 - Suspension system and body for large dump trucks - Owned by BHP Australia Coal PTY Ltd A.C.N. (Queensland,AU)

A suspension system for the main frame of a large dump truck has laterally spaced frame members each associated with a wheel mounting hub. For each hub, a hollow forward attachment arm is supported by a bearing block having a longitudinal journal and a transverse journal. The longitudinal journal receives the attachment arm and the transverse journal receives the ends of a shaft rigidly secured to the frame members and extends therebetween to define a cross member. A vertically compliant suspension strut includes a cylinder rigidly attached to a support secured to the frame member and receives a piston attached to a rear extension from the hub via a bearing which allows each hub to rotate about longitudinal and transverse axes relative to the respective frame member. Also disclosed is a dump truck body having side walls, a floor and an end wall. The floor is reinforced by longitudinal reinforcing beams and by only one transverse beam. The side walls slope inwardly, the floor slopes downwardly and forwardly and the width of the floor increases towards the rear of the body.
