A detergent active mixture of a dialkyl (C.sub.7 -C.sub.9) ester of sulphosuccinic acid and a sulphate R(OC.sub.2 H.sub.4).sub.n OSO.sub.3 M wherein R is alkyl, linear or branched, primary or secondary, having 11-18 carbon atoms, n is 0-40 when R is derived from a primary alcohol and 2-40 when derived from a secondary alcohol and M is an alkali metal ammonium or substituted ammonium ion, gives synergistic lather stability in hand dishwashing.
High-concentration (60-80% active matter) detergent compositions in the form of stable, translucent, mobile gels based on dialkyl sulphosuccinates and alkyl ether sulphates, and containing a lower alcohol and water, are disclosed. For stability, the ratio of lower alcohol to water should be below a certain critical value that varies with the total active detergent level.
Detergent compositions suitable inter alia for hand dishwashing include as active detergent a mixture of dialkyl sulphosuccinates obtained from a mixture of C.sub.7 and C.sub.8 aliphatic alcohols, optionally with C.sub.6 alcohol. Improved performance and formulation benefits are obtained.
A high foaming aqueous liquid detergent composition suitable inter alia for manual dishwashing is based on a ternary active detergent system of (a) dialkyl sulphosuccinate, (b) alkylbenzene sulphonate and/or secondary alkane sulphonate and (c) alkyl ether sulphate. This combination gives both performance and formulation (viscosity, hydrotropy) benefits.

Highly concentrated (60-95% active matter) foaming detergent compositions in liquid or gel form contain dialkyl sulphosuccinate, alkyl ether sulphate and/or ethoxylated nonionic detergent, optionally a fatty acid diethanolamide, optionally urea, and a solvent system of water plus optional lower alcohol, the molar proportion of ammonium ions being such that they constitute at least 50 mole % of the total cations, and being such that the dialkyl sulphosuccinate is at least partially in ammonium salt form.
In a foaming liquid detergent composition suitable inter alia for hand dishwashing and including in its detergent-active system a dialkyl sulphosuccinate, performance is enhanced and physical characteristics (stability, viscosity, hydrotrope requirement) are improved by the inclusion of a fatty acid dialkanolamide such as lauric diethanolamide.
