The discharge orifice on a fine mist sprayer has a hole through which streams of liquid particles are swirled at high speeds so as to fully atomize the liquid by the time it reaches the exit end of the hole. At that location an annular launching surface for the liquid particles flares outwardly from the hole wall through a curve extending at least 90.degree. from a tangent point on the wall. As a result of this construction, the swirling streams progressively increase in diameter as they approach the exit and encounter the flared launching surface and depart at random locations from the surface to thereby produce a spray pattern of substantially circular configuration and uniform particle distribution throughout. In the preferred embodiment, the launching surface projects outwardly beyond the face of the spray head in the nature of a rim around the orifice hole, such rim being uniformly smooth, flawless and devoid of any lines of demarcation or intersection with the wall or the outside face through a curve of at least 90.degree..
A fluid can be discontinuously atomized with an atomizer of the present invention. The atomizer can include a helical spring, disk spring or gas spring, acting as a pressure spring, as an energy storage device, a cylinder, piston, two ducts and two valves. Atomization can be initiated manually by triggering a locking mechanism. The energy storage device can be disposed outside a storage container for the fluid. The energy storage device can be provided mechanical energy manually. Via the piston, the stored energy can exert pressure onto the fluid in the cylinder, which ranges from 1 MPa to 5 MPa (10 bar to 50 bar). Distribution of the droplet size in the atomized jet can be independent from the level of experience and behavior of the person actuating the atomizer, and can be adjusted in a reproducible manner. The mean droplet diameter can be smaller than about 50 micrometers. The mass flow of the fluid through the nozzle can be less than about 0.4 g/s. The design and function of the atomizer can be adjusted to properties of the fluid, to a planned application, and to a desired manner for handling the atomizer.
A sprayer has a spray pattern which can be varied by the provision of a second fluid flow path which partially negates the spin velocity to produce a spray having a narrow spray cone producing spray. An opening in the spinner probe establishes the second fluid flow path from the discharge passage, and can be selectively opened and closed upon plunger rotation relative to a hollow piston stem.
An actuator for a container that dispenses liquids containing a suspension of particulate material that keeps itself from clogging comprises a mechanical break-up chamber to emit a fine spray and includes a continuous emission from an orifice which keeps the chamber free from accumulation of solid particles.
A spray actuator which has an inlet which communicates with a discharge orifice outlet via a passageway and a discharge cavity. The discharge cavity accommodates a central post therein which supports a plurality of axial fins that may be each provided with stop shoulder. An insert member, carrying a discharge orifice, is received within the discharge cavity and engages with the support fins and the stop shoulders. The insert member is provided with an annular lip which has an interference fit with the inner side wall, defining the discharge cavity, to retain permanently the insert member within the discharge cavity. An end face of the side wall of the insert member abuts against the stop shoulders to prevent overinsertion of the insert member into the discharge cavity and thereby prevent inadvertent deformation or crushing of the mechanical break-up. An end face of the central post has a mechanical break-up molded therein which impart a tangential spin to pressurized product as the product flow therethrough.
The present invention relates to a very high solid content contact adhesive (VHS) which has a higher solid content than previously thought attainable in the prior art without increasing the viscosity beyond operable levels. Additionally, the present invention provides a VHS application device which allows substantially more uniform application of the VHS than was previously attainable.
