Abstract
A center finding assembly is shown having a pair of longitudinally extending arms which at their ends carry a pair of edge-engaging, angle-shaped end guides that are adjustable with respect to each other longitudinally therealong. The pair of end guides of each arm are adapted to engage and to be secured between opposite edge portions of a substantially symmetrical workpiece to provide an automatic centering of a spool-like indicator element that is slidably pivotally carried by and that cross-connects the arms. The end guides are adapted to receive in an interfitting complementary relation a secondary pair of guides for adapting the assembly to the centering of a circular workpiece. Where measurements are to be taken from the located center, a protractor assembly is adapted to interfit with the indicator element and is provided with secondary arms and cooperating slide guides for accurately aligning it with respect to the workpiece. The protractor has graduated open portions therealong for locating desired distances from the center of the workpiece.

5979068 - Sprinkler head location guide

A gauge is disclosed to grid in the location of sprinkler lines above grid type suspended ceilings. The gauge is used after the grid is installed but before the overhead sprinkler system is completed and before the ceiling tiles are installed. The gauge includes a plurality of arms, preferably three which have lengths approximating 1/2 of the grid opening dimension and are all pivotal and extendable, if necessary to engage the grid system and locate a central body to which the arms are secured. When extended, the arms define the center of the grid opening. An extendable arm is secured to the central body and may be manually extended upward to locate the center of the grid opening at the structural support for the sprinkler distribution system. A drop branch line from the distribution system at the location identified by the gauge is installed and a sprinkler head attached to the drop branch line. The sprinkler head will then be located at the center of a grid opening for proper aesthetics in the finished room.

5437105 - Center finding device

A center finding device for locating the geometric center of a workpiece having substantially parallel side surfaces including a pair of crossed arm members pivotally secured to each other by a tubular member with a marking pin received therein and secured at one end and in slidable-pivotal relation to a longitudinal slot in each of a pair of side guide arms whereby when the guide arms are moved into engaging relation with the parallel side surfaces of the workpiece, the crossed arm members are automatically slidable into a position with the tubular member being in a geometrically centered position with respect to the workpiece. In addition, the center finding device can be used in conjunction with an accessory for locating the geometric center of a workpiece having substantially non-parallel side surfaces.

7082694 - Center point locator device

Provided is a device that locates the center point of any one of a number of differently shaped objects in one manipulation. The device incorporates a bed plate and two opposing right angle sliding jaws to position a center punch or drill bit bushing to the center of the object.

5394617 - Eyewear lens mechanical center locating apparatus

An apparatus for locating the geometrical center of a lens, whether in or out of an eyewear frame, includes a flat platform adapted to seat an eyewear lens thereon and a framework mounted on the platform and having first and second pairs of opposite side members extending in substantially orthogonal relationship to one another and intersecting with one another so as to define a substantially rectangular enclosure having first and second pairs of diagonal corners. The side members of the pairs thereof are mounted to the platform for undergoing relative movement so as to adjust the distances therebetween and thereby the length and width of the enclosure to fit about the lens seated on the platform. The apparatus also includes a plurality of positioning elements each mounted to one of the side members of the first and second pairs thereof for undergoing slidable movement therealong so as together to engage and retain the lens on the platform within the rectangular enclosure, and a pair of cross members pivotally coupled to the framework at the pairs of diagonal corners thereof such that the cross members extend diagonally across the enclosure and intersect with one another at a center point of the enclosure and thereby at the geometrical center of the lens seated on the platform within the enclosure.

6158137 - Center locator tool

The center locator tool has a flat, rectangular case with a top wall, a bottom wall, and two opposing side walls. The interior of the case houses a spur gear rotatably mounted on a center post extending through the center of the case, the center post having a bore defined axially therein. A pair of arms are mounted so that the arms are slidable through the case on opposite sides of the spur gear, each arm having a rack defined in its edge which engages the spur gear so that when one arm is extended from the case, the other arm is extended an equal distance in the opposite direction. Each arm has a groove defined in its bottom surface for engaging a guide projecting from the bottom wall of the case. The end of each arm has a work engaging plate forming a "V" shape, the opening of the "V" facing towards the center of the tool, the plates depending from the ends of the arms and being adapted for engaging a square or circular workpiece. When the "V" plates engage the diagonally opposing corners of a square or opposite sides of a circle, the center of the surface lies below the bore defined in the center post. An alternative embodiment of the tool has a wheel with an O-ring about its circumference frictionally engaging slots defined in the edges of the arms in place of the spur gear and rack mechanism.
