A plant stake is disclosed comprising a telescoping post supported on legs that swing pivotally from the base of the post into engagement with the ground. Ground anchor members are provided at the end of the legs for securing the post in a position such that the post may be aligned vertically by adjustment of the legs. A basket is suspended from beneath the post, the basket being used to support or grow tuberous plants. The basket is hoisted from a level slightly below ground level up to the base of the post by means of a hoist such as a threaded shaft having a rotatable flange thereon on which the basket may be secured, the threaded shaft threadably engaging either the flange or the post along the longitudinal axis of the post.
A root control and containment system for holding and growing a plant in a cavity in the earth for controlling and containing vertical and horizontal root growth is disclosed. The system includes a vessel having upstanding sidewalls and a base therebelow and an open top thereabove. A root inhibiting carbon bound material is in chemical communication with the vessel and stores and releases the root inhibiting carbon bound materials over protracted periods of time. The root inhibiting carbon bound material is disposed in a discrete pattern relationship on an inner surface of the sidewalls and the base. The controlled release of the carbon bound material rejects lateral root growth therethrough the wall and vertical root growth therethrough the base of the vessel. An arcuate collar is attached to an upper edge of the sidewall of the vessel and is disposed above the surface of the earth surrounding the cavity for rapid identification of the cavity by field personnel when performing field tasks. A cradle is adapted for congruent residence inside the vessel and is in removal engagement with the sidewalls and the base of the vessel. The cradle is vertically disposed and has a plurality of rings horizontally disposed in a spaced apart relationship. A plurality of lifting ears are disposed on an upper ring thereof for removing the plant safely when desired.
The tripod (10) comprises an equipment support (12), three legs (14, 16) pivotally secured to the support, a center post (22) extending from the support and between the legs, and three stabilizer links (28) secured respectively between the legs and the center post. Gross adjustment is first made for each leg by adjusting the position of the end of its stabilizer link with respect to the leg. Thereafter, fine adjustments are made by rotating a turnbuckle (44) in the stabilizer link which lengthens or shortens the link to change the geometry of the triangle formed by the leg, the center post, and the stabilizer link. A slider bearing (54) is attached between each of the legs and its respective foot pad (56). Since the foot pads have previously been firmly set into the ground, when the geometry change occurs, the slider bearing permits relative sliding between the leg and the foot pad without causing physical movement of the foot pad.
A radial garden support system for climbing plants and non-climbing plants that can be used directly on the ground, with or without planting containers, and can also be used on a deck or patio with planting containers. Adjustable upper and lower radial arms support the climbing surface to meet the vertical needs of the climbing plants chosen. Leveling screws on the lower radial arms maintain proper orientation of the system on uneven ground. Triangular planting containers fit between the lower radial arms defining the growing area and resulting in less weeds and decreased quantities of water and fertilizer. Removable greenhouse tents fit within each planting container and enable early plantings, therefore increasing the growing season. A watering collar introduces water directly to the roots of the plants and enables introduction of plant food to the roots minimizing water and plant food requirements.
A tree anchoring device includes an upright elongated support rod having a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart foot members at the lower end thereof. Each foot member includes an outwardly directed first prong and a downwardly directed second prong adapted for insertion into the ground to provide wide base support for the upstanding rod. A pair of diverging contact fingers extend outwardly from the support rod for receiving a tree trunk therebetween and supporting the tree trunk in spaced relation from the support rod. The contact fingers define a generally V-shaped channel having an open side through which the tree trunk is received. Furthermore, the contact fingers may be formed of a resilient spring material and be releasably clamped together onto the support rod so as to be vertically adjustable thereon.
A device for growing plants at an abnormal growth rate in a container (9), which has entirely or partially perforated walls and an aperture in the growing direction of the plant, has the shape of a pouch with at least one stiffening strap (10). The container (9) is surrounded by a guide member (1) having a guide frame (2) adapted to the curve of the stiffening strap (10) adjusted therein and having at the upper end an annular lip (3) in the aperture of which said container (9) is fitted. In the aperture of the annular lip (3) can be inserted a clamping ring (13) by which the upper edge of the container (9) is clamped between said ring and the inner wall of the annular lip (3).
