Abstract
A water bed mattress comprised of upper and lower flexible sheets which are provided with peripherally extending downwardly and upwardly struck flaps, respectively, at their outer peripheral ends. These flaps are sealed to each other in order to form a completely enclosed mattress. A tapered, angularly struck inner peripheral wall extends effectively between the upper and lower walls of the water bed mattress in such manner that the upper end of the inner peripheral wall extends to the outer peripheral margin of the upper wall and the lower end of the inner peripheral wall terminates inwardly of the outer peripheral margin of the lower wall. In this way, the inner peripheral wall operates in conjunction with the upper wall in order to form an inner water chamber which is essentially coextensive with the entire upper surface of the upper wall. An air chamber is formed by the other side of the inner peripheral wall, the outer wall and the lower wall. Thus, the air chamber increases in size with the increased depth in the outer peripheral wall. The inner peripheral wall and the flaps which form the outer peripheral wall may be either lap sealed or otherwise butt sealed to each other in accordance with the present invention. The present invention also provides a unique method of making the water bed mattress of the present invention.

4370769 - Cushion utilizing air and liquid

A cushion having beneficial purposes for both persons having physical disabilities and persons who do not. It is an expandable cushion having a lower chamber for air and an upper chamber for liquid, preferably ordinary water. The water chamber or container is configurated to be over the air container and to have portions at the sides and back of the cushion, which are filled with and forced up by pressure when a person is seated on the cushion to provide a containment for the upper thighs, buttocks and lumbar region for beneficial purposes, as identified herein.

4389742 - Pressure controlled air/water cushion

A cushion is disclosed having at least two coextensive overlying fluid compartments. One compartment is inflated with a compressible fluid, preferably air. The other compartment is inflated with a non-compressible fluid, preferably water. The compartments are provided with fluid communicated chambers defined between seams. The chambers and seams of an overlying compartment are at right angles to the chambers and seams of underlying compartments. Fluid communication is provided at apertures in the seams between the chambers. When inflated with water in one compartment, the air in the other compartment and supporting a user, the weight of the supported user is uniquely distributed by the two phase pressure reaction in each of the cushion compartments. Moreover, movement of the user produces a dual fluid phase hunting for a position of compressed equilibrium between the compartments and their respective chambers and seams in the cushion. Greater ease of body movement with a following cushion conformation occurs.

6857152 - Water bed structure

A water bed structure includes water containing bodies, a concave bed body, air protection borders and a bed housing, wherein the water containing bodies are installed in accommodating chambers formed by the concave bed body and the air protection borders, and are placed into the bed housing. The concave bed body has each of four sides thereof provided with at least two openings for installing four unfilled air protection borders through the openings. The four air protection borders are provided with air inlet plugs that are located at the openings at the four sides of the four air protection borders. The assembled air protection borders and the concave bed of the water containing beds are placed into an inverted U-shape bed housing in an upward direction, such that the openings of the concave bed body and the air inlet plugs of the air protection borders are concealed.
