A forward, stowable seat and back has a seat frame, floor frame, and forward and rear sets of upright frames which form a modified parallelogram to allow swingable movement of the seat and back from a cantilevered rear position in which the seat and back are cantilevered or suspended rearwardly of the floor frame and a stowable, forward position in which the seat and back are moved forwardly of the rear end of the floor frame. A collapsible link limits the rearward movement of the seat and back and is releasibly held in position by a hook member which latches onto a latch pin hingedly connecting upper and lower links of a brace. The back is held in its rearward position by an elongated strap that slides in a track on the back. Independent, pivotal movement of the back relative to the seat frame occurs by pressing a button on the rear of the back and pivoting the back forward allowing the upper end of the strap to slide along and be guided in the track.
A foldable seat that includes a back support hingedly attached to a seat member such that the back support can be folded from an upright, open position to a horizontal, closed position. The seat member includes a shoulder for cooperating with the bottom of the back support to prevent the back support from deflecting or buckling and being displaced beyond the vertical position.
An executive office type chair wherein the chair can assume a collapsed position where the back of the chair can be folded to a position against the seat of the chair.
A tractor seat of the type having a seat pan 14 which is hooked on to a vertically movable spring biassed carriage 12, so that the seat pan can be released and moved out of the way of a standing driver, has a latch device 18 comprising a headed pin 20 secured to the pan 14 and a catch plate 22 secured to the carriage and formed with an aperture 22a for receiving the headed pin 20. The catch plate is resilient so that it can be bent away from the pin to release the seat pan. In particular the aperture tapers from the lower end normally occupied by the pin to an upper end through which the head of the pin cannot pass, so that accidental lifting of the pan will lock the headed pin within the aperture.
An adult to infant convertible seat is described for automobiles and other moving vehicles which have a storage compartment behind the convertible seat. The infant seat is retractable into the storage compartment and extendible into the infant seat use position. The infant or child seat is provided with an upper back rest portion and lower seat portion which are selectively connected and locked to each other to permit unfolding of the seat when a child seat is to be used in a folded condition which substantially reduces the clearance radius of the seat thereby permitting the movement of the child seat in the folded condition into smaller storage compartments and areas of smaller dimensions.
A mounting assembly for rear seat backs of automobiles is provided which permits the horizontal positioning of a seat back with respect to a vertical body panel to effect snap fit insertion of a plurality of clips carried on the rear of the seat back frame into apertures formed through the vertical body panel.
