Abstract
A supercharged engine is provided with a by-pass pipe through which all the air from the compressor which is not absorbed by the engine flows towards the turbine through an auxiliary combustion chamber. There is provided a system for supplying fuel to the combustion chamber, comprising means for regulating the flow rate of fuel supplied to the auxiliary chamber so as to prevent the supercharging pressure falling below a set value; in which power unit the regulating means comprise sensing means sensitive to the quantity of fuel injected per cycle into the engine so that each value of the said quantity of fuel is made to correspond to a particular set value of supercharging pressure.

4616481 - Supercharged internal combustion engines having a bypass conduit and an auxiliary combustion chamber which are provided with a regulating system - Owned by French State (FR)

An internal combustion engine (1), supercharged by a turbocompressor (3), comprises a bypass conduit (11) in which is placed an auxiliary combustion chamber (14). The primary zone (13) of this chamber (14) receives fuel whose flow is determined by regulating means (20). These means (20) vary this flow in the same direction as a parameter which is a characteristic of the load of the engine (1), in particular the temperature of the gases measured in the exhaust of the engine (1) by a sensor (22).

4389846 - Air supply and fuel volume control arrangement for an auxiliary combustion chamber of a supercharged internal combustion engine - Owned by Motor-und Turbinen-Union GmbH (DE)

An arrangement for controlling a supply of air and a volume of fuel to an auxiliary combustion chamber associated with a supercharged internal combustion engine. The auxiliary combustion chamber being adapted to periodically deliver additional exhaust gas to an exhaust gas turbine of the supercharger as a function of an instantaneous exhaust gas volume from the internal combustion engine. A sensor is disposed in a charging air line of the internal combustion engine for influencing a pressure detector which delivers an actual value signal corresponding to the instantaneous charging air pressure. The signal reaching a comparator by way of an input amplifier, in which comparator the signal is compared with a guide parameter delivered by a fixed value adjustment device and corresponding to the desired constant charging air pressure. The resultant differential between the desired constant charging air pressure and the actual value forms an input signal for a proportional regulator whose output signal is fed to two curve adjustment elements which are respectively connected in series with an air supply regulator and/or a force amplifier to control the fuel volume.

4517802 - Turbocharger combustor method - Owned by The Garrett Corporation (Los Angeles, CA)

A combustor system for use with a turbocharged combustion engine comprises a combustor connected for continuous passage of engine exhaust gases. The combustor includes a relatively low pressure fuel injection system for atomizing fuel for combustion in a substantially vitiated atmosphere, and a fuel control system for supplying fuel to the combustor in response to engine operating conditions.

6609372 - Method and apparatus for controlling the temperature of an engine - Owned by Caterpillar INC (Peoria, IL)

The present invention includes a method and apparatus for controlling the exhaust temperature of an engine is disclosed. The method includes the steps of sensing the exhaust temperature of the engine, determining a desired air pressure in response to the exhaust temperature, and controlling the air flow into the engine in response to the desired air pressure. The apparatus includes an air temperature sensor for sensing an actual exhaust temperature within the exhaust manifold and responsively generating an exhaust temperature signal. The apparatus also includes a controller for receiving the exhaust temperature signal and comparing the exhaust temperature signal to a desired exhaust port temperature, determining a desired air pressure in response to the comparison.
