A door hinge attachment device for a door having a core of hardboard or like relatively soft material sandwiched between and adhered to a pair of face panels and the resulting assembly. The attachment device includes a pair of gripping jaws embracing the hinged edge of the door and bolted thereto, and a mounting plate integral with one of the gripping jaws and tongue-and-groove jointed to or integral with the other. Fitted flush in a recess in the door edge, the mounting plate has a set of tapped holes to permit one of the leaves of a butt hinge to be screwed thereto through a frame member extending along and embracing the peripheral edges of the door.
This invention relates to a kit for reinforcing door hinges and, more specifically, to a two-piece kit for strengthening door hinges that may have come loose. The kit comprises a two-piece hinge repair kit that is adapted for use with standard size doors and with standard size hinges. The first piece of the kit is a rectangular U-shaped bracket having an open side or face. This U-shaped bracket is adapted to fit through its open side around the edge of the door. The sides and roof of this U-shaped structure have apertures to be used as connecting holes for attachment to the door and hinge. The roof has a recessed cutout section containing the holes for alignment with the holes of a hinge. The cutout distance down from the top of the roof should approximate the thickness of one leaf of the hinge. Thus, when the hinge is attached to the U-shaped bracket and door, the top surface is level with the face of the bracket and flush with the face of the roof sides adjacent the cutout portion. The vertical sides of the U-shaped bracket extending down from the roof portion contain screw holes for attaching the U-shaped bracket to the side edge portion of a door. This U-shaped mounting bracket is merely slipped over the door with some of its roof apertures aligned with the existing screw holes so that no adjustment or further chipping away of the door edge is required.
Hardware attaching means is disclosed in the form of a support assembly for attaching hardware to a panel structure. The assembly includes one or more doubler plates adhered to the exterior of the panel structure to distribute hanging and service forces thereto. Spacer means is provided in the assembly to prevent excessive compression and bearing stress of the panel structure when the assembly is held in supporting relationship therewith.
An insulated door for a refrigeration vehicle includes spaced walls between which there is an insulation material. Hardware such as hinges and latches are mounted to the door by fastening the hardware to a rigid support mounted on the outside wall of the door, and providing openings in the support for accommodating fastening elements whereby the hardware is affixed to the support and the fastening elements do not thereby penetrate through the door walls.
A gate framing system for a PVC gate, the gate comprising first and second spaced vertical PVC frame members connected at their upper and lower ends to a pair of spaced horizontal PVC frame members, the gate framing system comprising a pair of spaced metallic framing brackets mounted at each corner of the PVC gate, the pairs of framing brackets being connected to each other in such manner as to hold the PVC gate in compression between the brackets at each corner thereof, wherein the framing brackets are bent around the outer side edges of the PVC vertical frame members in an overlapping relation, wherein a first post-tensioning metallic rod extends horizontally across the top of the PVC gate through the overlapping ends of the pairs of brackets at the upper corners of the PVC gate, and wherein a second post-tensioning metallic rod extends horizontally across the bottom of the PVC gate through the overlapping ends of the pairs of framing brackets at the bottom corners of the PVC gate, whereby the post-tensioning rods exert horizontal compressive forces between the upper two corners and the lower two corners to add structural rigidity to the PVC gate.
An arrangement for precisely mounting a door on a vehicle body by a door on-door off hinge assembly. A door hinge flange has upper and lower transversely elongated slots and an intermediate rectangular tab opening symmetrically disposed on a common vertical axis. A tapping plate has a base formed with upper and lower bores and a central hook-like resilient tab member lanced-out from its base. The base mating face has a thermosetting film adhesive affixed thereto while an upper tapered locator pin extends therefrom adapted to pass through a door hinge flange clearance aperture and seat in a net hole in the door hinge web to establish a precise re-mounting location of the door hinge. Upon the tapping plate being hung on the flange inner surface, by virtue of the tab member being hooked through the flange tab opening, the locating pin extends through a clearance aperture in the door flange and a net hole in the base. As the door hinges are loose fitted to the body hinge flange prior to hanging the door on the body, the tapping plate and door hinge adjustably slide on the flange allowing the door and body panel outer surfaces to be precisely aligned. Upon the body moving through an assembly line painting stage curing the adhesive film and bonding the tapping plate face to the door flange inner surface.
