A coating composition comprising; A. an oligomer of Formula I: ##STR1## wherein: R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl; R.sup.2 is lower alkylene; R.sup.3 is aliphatic or cycloaliphatic; X is --O-- or --NH--; n is an integer from 2 to 50 inclusive; B. n-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone; C. an acrylic acid ester having a boiling point of at least 200.degree. C at 760 mm Hg.
What is described herein is a radiation curable coating composition comprising: A. An oligomer of Formula I: ##STR1## wherein: R.sup.1 is hydrogen or methyl; and Y is a divalent urethane residue; and B. a copolymerizable ultra-violet light absorber which is a copolymerizable (2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacryloxy) alkylene ethylenic ether of Formula IV: ##STR2## where (Ar).sub.1 and (Ar).sub.2 are aromatic carbocylic nuclei of the benzene and naphthalene series; X is alkylene, C.sub.2 -C.sub.17, unsubstituted or substituted; R is alkylene, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10, oxyalkylene, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10, alkyleneoxyalkylene, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 or phenylene, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10, unsubstituted or substituted with hydroxy, and R' and R" are independently hydrogen or alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6. Preferably the coating composition contains a vinyl monomer, such as N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone or an acrylic acid ester, which is copolymerizable with the oligomer. The process for curing the composition also is disclosed.
Improved radiation curable compositions are provided which comprises N-vinylformamide and an oligomer selected from the group consisting of epoxy-acrylate resins, polyester acrylate resins, polyurethane acrylate resins and mixtures thereof. A photoinitiator is also added to the composition. A process is also provided whereby the composition is applied to the surface of a substrate and subsequently exposed to a radiation source until an adherent dry polymerized film is formed on the substrate. These compositions are useful as pigmented and unpigmented coatings, printing inks, adhesives and the like.
This invention relates to terpolymers which are capable of forming hydrogels having very good compatibility with living tissues and may be used as substitutes for damaged tissues, as in the form of implants and various prostheses. The terpolymers are comprised of an oligourethane having an average molecular weight from 1200 to 3000, 2-hydroxyethyl(meth)acrylate or 2-hydroxypropyl(meth)acrylate, and N-vinylpyrrolidone.
Novel ester diol alkoxylate urethane-acrylates comprising the reaction products of an ester diol alkoxylate, such as 2,2-dimethyl-3-hydroxypropyl 2,2-dimethyl-3-hydroxypropionate, and an organic polyiosocyanate, capped by an hydroxyalkyl acrylate and curable compositions thereof.
A process is provided whereby radiation curable compositions comprising N-vinylformamide and an oligomer selected from the group consisting of epoxy-acrylate resins, polyester acrylate resins, polyurethane acrylate resins, acrylic acrylate resins, silicone acrylate resins, unsaturated polyester resins, maleate ester resins, vinyl ether resins and mixtures thereof are applied to the surface of a substrate and subsequently exposed to a radiation source until an adherent dry polymerized film is formed on the substrate. These compositions are useful for a wide range of applications including pigmented and unpigmented coatings, printing inks, adhesives and the like.
