This drilling device includes a hydraulic motor, coaxially surrounding the drill rod, for rotating the drill. The rotor of the motor directly rotates the drill, without the use of gears. Advantageously, the rotor includes a replaceable adapter sleeve that has a shape conforming to the peripheral shape of the drill. By replacing the sleeve, drill rods of different shape or size can be accommodated. The rotor may be of the wing cell type, wherein a plurality of radially moveable vanes or wings project radially from a circular rotor into contact with the inner wall of a non-circular cylinder wall. The vanes define cells within which the hydraulic fluid presses against the vanes so as to impart rotation to the rotor, sleeve and drill.
A truck-mounted rock drilling machine for pole holes consists of a pivotable boom mounted on the truck bed and a jack-hammer-like mechanism mounted on the boom. The jack hammer like mechanism is driven from a compressor which is preferably mounted on a separate trailer.
A pile driver assembly comprising a lead, a hammer supported for longitudinal movement along the lead, a helmet at the lower end of the lead configured to receive the end of a noncircular pile, a pile guide supported for longitudinal movement along the lead and having a cross-section configured to receive the pile, and a pile rotator supported near the lower end of the lead and configured to receive the pile, the pile rotator centering and rotating the noncircular pile.
Tool for driving fastening elements into a hard receiving material, such as concrete, masonry, rock and the like, has a first device (1) for drilling a fastening element into the hard material and a second device (2) for axially propelling the fastening element into the receiving material after it has been partly drilled in. The first device (1) provides a borehole in the hard receiving material by applying rotary movement to the fastening element, possibly with the addition of axially directed striking force. The second device (2) completes the insertion of the fastening element into the receiving material by directing an axial force produced by high pressure gases against the partly drilled in fastening element.
A hand-held pneumatic-hydraulic drill unit employs modular drilling and clamp-up assemblies to perform a complete drilling cycle. The drilling cycle consists of: (1) clamping the drill unit to a work piece and/or a template that positions the drill unit relative to the workpiece; (2) advancing a rotating tool bit to perform the desired machining operation; (3) withdrawing the tool bit from the machined opening; and (4) releasing the clamping mechanism that secures the drill unit to the workpiece. The drill unit includes a pneumatic motor subassembly that is advanced toward and retracted from a workpiece by a hydraulically actuated feed cylinder. The motor subassembly and feed cylinder are axially aligned with one another. The clamp-up assembly of the drill unit also includes a clamp cylinder that is activated solely by hydraulic pressure. A modular, pneumatically actuated hydraulic pump is mounted on the drill unit and supplies pressurized hydraulic fluid to the feed and clamp cylinders. Variations in drilling depths, drilling speeds, feed rates, drilling thrusts, and clamp-up forces can be effected by changing modular components of the drill unit.
