Novel 2-aryl-2-[.omega.-(diisopropylamino)alkyl]-.omega.-(azabicycloalkyl)alkana mides are described herein. The present compounds are useful as anti-arrhythmic agents. The compounds are prepared by reacting an appropriate disubstituted acetonitrile with an appropriate .omega.-(azabicycloalkyl)alkyl halide and subsequent hydrolysis of the resulting nitrile with concentrated sulfuric acid.
An isoquinuclidine derivative represented by the following general formula (I): (I) [wherein A.sub.1 is methylene or carbonyl]: R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl: R.sub.2 is --(CH.sub.2).sub.n -A.sub.2 -Ph (n is an integer of 0 to 3 and A.sub.2 is a single bond or --O--): and R.sub.3 is --COOH, --COOR.sub.4, --COSR.sub.4 (R.sub.4 is lower alkyl, unsubstituted phenyl, or phenyl substituted by a lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxyl, methoxycarbonyl, ethoxycarbonyl, or trifluoromethanesulfonamide group or by a halogen atom), etc.] or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of the compound. Also provided is an oral remedy for diabetes, which contains the compound and has hypoglycemic activity. ##STR1##
