An apparatus for use with a device for producing a suitable electric field to effect the electrodynamic spraying of solutions, dispersions, or mixtures of solids. The apparatus includes at least one spray station for spraying into a given spray zone. Each spray station includes two spaced apart tanks for holding the medium to be sprayed and which are disposed on both sides of the spray zone. An endless band is supported by pulleys disposed at each tank for circulating the band and constantly running a run thereof through the tanks. Squeegees are disposed at each tank to remove excess medium from the band and inlet and outlet connections in each tank effect a desired level of the medium therein.
The inventions directed to a process for producing non-woven fabric materials in which nano- and/or microfibers are produced by an electrostatic spinning process from a polymer melt or a polymer solution and deposited to form a non-woven fabric. A carrier material in web form is arranged or is passed through between at least two spraying devices which are in the form of electrodes for producing an electrical field and each side of the carrier material is coated with the nano- and/or microfibers of opposite polarity, which are produced by means of the spraying devices.
A masking film suitable for masking during electrostatic spray painting is disclosed. In one embodiment the masking film is made from an acid copolymer/quaternary amine mixture which is permanently antistatic. The acid copolymer is a copolymer of (i) a major amount by mol % of an alpha-olefin of the formula RCH.dbd.CH.sub.2 wherein R is H or C.sub.1 to C.sub.8 alkyl, and (ii) a minor amount by mol % of an alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid. The quaternary amine is of the formula [(R.sup.1)(R.sup.2)(R.sup.3)(R.sup.4)N].sup.+ [X].sup.- wherein R.sup.1 is selected from H, aryl, or C.sub.1 to C.sub.50 alkyl optionally having one or more non-contiguous C.dbd.O or NHC.dbd.O or --S-- or --O-- in the carbon chain, or the same as R.sup.2 ; each of R.sup.2, R.sup.3, and R.sup.4 is the same or different and selected from H, C.sub.1 to C.sub.18 alkyl optionally substituted with one or more OH or from --(R.sup.5 --O).sub.a --H where a is an integer from 1 to 10 and R.sup.5 is ethylene or propylene; and X is an anion selected from chloride, bromide, iodide, nitrate, fluoborate, phosphate, C.sub.1 to C.sub.8 alkyl phosphate, sulfate, C.sub.1 to C.sub.8 alkyl sulfate, formate, C.sub.1 to C.sub.8 alkyl or C.sub.6 to C.sub.24 alkaryl or aryl sulfonate, acetate, citrate, trifluoroacetate, propionate, tartrate or carbonate. In a second embodiment, the masking film is made from a polyolefin containing a particulate conductive filler.
