Abstract
An arrangement for sealing and retaining a window glass (such as a motor vehicle windshield) in an opening is disclosed for use where the window opening has a surrounding flange directed inwardly of the opening. A series of U-shaped metal clips are placed onto the flange at intervals. Each clip additionally has at least two arms which project outwardly of the opening from near to the free edge of one leg of each clip, the arms of each clip being provided with teeth and together defining a mouth. A continuous channel-shaped flexible strip structure is then placed over the U-shaped clips and the flange between the clips, but so as to leave the projecting arms clear. The strip structure includes two outwardly projecting sealing lips, against which the window glass seats. A beading, of T-shape in cross-section, is then placed around the entire periphery of the window glass, with the leg of the T extending into the mouths provided by the projecting arms on each clip and locking with the teeth therein. The beading serves a decorative, sealing and retaining function.

4249356 - Moulding clip devices for adhesively attached windshield structures - Owned by Toyo Kogyo Co., Ltd. (Hiroshima,JP)

In an automobile windshield structure in which a windshield glass is adhesively attached to a body frame, a clip device for installing a moulding along the peripheral edge portion of the glass comprises first and second lip members. The first clip member is adapted to be attached to the peripheral edge of the glass and has guide channels for slidably receiving cooperating slide portions in the second clip member. The first clip member has a retaining pawl which is adapted to engage with indentations on the second clip member so that the second clip member is prevented from moving in one direction with respect to the first clip member but movable in the opposite direction.

5355651 - Mounting arrangement for securing a pane of window glass in a frame - Owned by Draftex Industries Limited (Edinburgh,GB6)

A glass mounting arrangement for mounting a window glass in a window frame comprises a channel-shaped flexible strip which has apertures at intervals therealong. Each aperture sealingly receives an arm of a respective mounting clip. Each mounting clip has a U-shaped portion which seats in a recess in the channel of the strip. The strip with the clips mounted therein is placed on and along the peripheral edge of the window glass before the latter is offered up to the window frame. As the window glass is moved bodily towards the window frame, the arms contact the window frame and correctly position the window glass with respect to the window frame. The arms of the clips elastically deform to allow locking shoulders to pass over the edge of the frame, the arms thereafter resiling to secure the window glass in position. Lips provide additional sealing. The mounting arrangement is particularly suitable for use with a robot.

The device comprises a molding holding member, a mounting member to be mounted on the vehicle body and flexible large and small arms for integrally coupling the molding member and the mounting member to each other.

5056850 - Window reveal molding - Owned by General Motors Corporation (Detroit, MI)

A motor vehicle molding assembly for concealing the space between the edges of a window panel and a door which are mounted to a pillar. The molding assembly has a retainer mounted to the pillar. The retainer has a first projection projecting generally perpendicular to the pillar, with a hook formed at the end of the first projection. A dual durometer molding has a rigid portion having a groove with a catch portion adapted to receive and engage the hook of the retainer to secure the molding to the door pillar. A pliable portion encases the rigid portion and has a pair of legs depending towards and engaging the retainer mounted to the pillar for biasing the dual durometer molding away from the retainer and maintaining the engagement of the hook with the catch portion. A continuous flexible lip is extruded integral with the pliable portion and bridges across the top of the legs and the interposed rigid portion. The lip has a window engaging portion overlying the edge of the window and a door engaging portion underlying the door whereby the dual durometer molding bridges across the space between the window panel and the door.

5437131 - Window molding members and method of manufacturing same - Owned by Hashimoto Forming Industry Co., Ltd. (JP) [*] Notice:The portion of the term of this patent subsequent to April 28, 2009 has been disclaimed.

The disclosure relates to a molding member, for instance for automobile front window plates, as well as a method of manufacturing such molding members. The molding member has a lip section in the form of a ridge which extends throughout the entire length. The lip section bears against the surface of the window plate along the upper portion to realize a flush outer surface between the upper edge of the window plate and the body panel, but is spaced therefrom along the side portions to define a weir. The weir can be formed by deforming a predetermined location of the ridge, and prevents flow of the rain water across the molding member to preserve the driver's or passenger's sight through an adjacent side window.
