Composition for topical application in the treatment of psoriasis comprises specified amounts of dithranol, an acid and anti-oxidant, petroleum jelly, which may be mixed with a spreadable synthetic rubber, water, and an emulsifier. These compositions show little tendency to spread after application to a psoriatic area and show a reduced tendency to stain.
Non-sticky anhydrous bases useful as vehicles for cosmetics and therapeutic compositions to be topically applied are disclosed. The anhydrous base is composed of two essential ingredients namely isopropyl myristate or isopropyl palmitate and glyceryl monostearate in a concentration of more than 30% for the former by weight of the total composition. The base is excellent as a vehicle for cosmetics and also for pharmaceuticals to be topically applied in the treatment of skin disorders.
Anhydrous composition, stable to oxidation, of anthralin or a derivative thereof. This composition contains anthralin or a derivative thereof in a carrier composed of (i) at least one fatty acid alkyl ester, the fatty acid having 12 to 18 carbon atoms and the alkyl radical having 2 or 3 carbon atoms, and (ii) at least one thickener taken from the group made up of silicas having particle sizes less than 30 m.mu. and polyethylene powders having densities between 0.9 and 0.96 (g/cm.sup.3). This composition is used in the treatment of skin diseases, particularly psoriasis.
This invention relates to an anthralin composition having improved stability. The invention further relates to a method for increasing the stability of anthralin in dermatological compositions by incorporating therein a stability enhancing amount of an acid stable anionic surfactant and a water soluble antioxidant.
The staining of skin and clothing incidental to the topical application of anthralin may be avoided or eliminated by: (a) topically applying an anthralin formulation containing a therapeutically effective amount of anthralin to the involved area of the skin; and (b) topically applying a wax formulation to the involved area, wherein the wax formulation comprises a wax. In addition, a powder may be topically applied to the involved area.
Therapeutic and preventive compositions that treat dull, dry and rough skin, improve skin smoothness and elasticity, diminish fine lines and wrinkles, prevent acne and promote renewed skin vibrance. The compositions include an alpha hydroxy acid and a preservative.
