A system is described for replaying, in any selected sequence, programs recorded on a tape. The system is adapted to read a tape having tape location information and program location information thereon. In a preferred embodiment, a keyboard is included for selecting desired programs for replay in any sequence. In response to that selection, a controller determines from the program location information where the selected programs begin and end on the tape and causes those programs to be replayed in the sequence selected. Preferably, the system also permits replay of any tape segment or part of a recorded program by operator input of tape location information corresponding to the starting and stopping tape locations of the selected tape segments.
Multimessage automatic telephone polling methods and apparatus are provided wherein, telephone numbers for automatic dialing are selected from a queue upon a basis of least prior unsuccessful attempts at calling each telephone number. Thereafter, selection occurs upon the basis of association with the message in place at the playback station to insure that media displacement is maintained at a minimum. A method of performing state transition control in an electronic apparatus in which it is first determined whether a functional transition request has occurred. A main routine is performed if no transition request has occurred and a state transition processing is performed if a transition request has occurred. By calling the main routine as a subroutine during the state transition processing, interrupt processing and separated stack processing are avoided.
