A foul or base line segment of plastic or rubberized material suitable for installation in various fields of athletic activities comprising: a generally horizontally extending lower flange for installation in a field beneath ground or playing level; a generally horizontally extending upper flange which upon installation will be clearly visible at ground or playing level to demarcate fair and foul zones or areas, for example; an intermediate web extending generally vertically between the lower and the upper flanges and having a lower edge integral with the lower flange at about the transverse midsection of the lower flange, an upper edge integral with the upper flange at about the transverse midsection of the upper flange, and a retaining element formed in at least one end of the web; and a coupling member cooperating with the retaining element to couple the one end of the web to an end of a like foul or base line segment placed end-to-end with the foul or base line segment to extend it and to ensure installation at substantially the same level or height.

A portable field boundary for field sports such as soccer, football, flag football, rugby, field hockey, ultimate, lacrosse or others is formed of a flexible cord or twine with pennants or flags or other marking devices being permanently attached to the cord to denote appropriate desired points such as corners, goals, goal lines, mid-field, yardage increments or other desired elements. The boundary is designed to lay restingly on the ground with stakes or other anchoring devices used to affix the boundary to the desired surface defining the corners and perimeter of the playing field. The design is lightweight and durable to allow for multiple subsequent temporary applications, retrievals and storage of the apparatus, the duration of a single use typically being a single practice or competition.

The invention deals with a road marking tape which has retroreflective elements and protruding anti-skid elements, and which means is provided for preventing damaging of the retroreflective elements by snow plowing means. The preventing means is designed in accordance with the present invention in a special manner as a compressible element which is composed of a compressible material so that in response to impact of the protruding elements of the tape by the snow plowing means the compressible material of the compressible element compresses and the original thickness of the compressible material reduces to a predetermined thickness which is selected so that the protruding element sink into the groove by the depth at least equal to the height of the protruding elements.

A safety base comprising a cushion and root formed of a resilient material with a protective wrapping and a ground support having an aperture for receiving the root and holding the base in a desired orientation on the playing field. The force of a player sliding into the base deforms the base and pops it free of the ground support without injury to the player.

Apparatus for setting bases at selected locations on a baseball or softball field, comprising a base anchor socket or peg member designed to be complementarily engageable with stud members associated with or forming a part of the undersides of bases, a base anchor setting assembly including an elongated shank portion with an associated force transferring portion, which base anchor setting assembly is adapted to be complementarily engageable with the base anchor socket member, and a driving member complementarily engageable with the base anchor setting assembly and operable when so engaged and when the base anchor setting assembly and base anchor socket member are also engaged with one another to effect the repetitive application of force to and through the force transferring portion to cause the base anchor socket member to be driven into the ground at a selected location.
