The illumination device comprises a body, an illumination means, a holding means and a switching means, the last mentioned three means being attached to said body. Said holding means includes a battery and a biasing means made of an electrically conductive material. The holding means is made of an electrically conductive material and is constantly electrically connected to one electrode of said battery through said biasing means. The biasing means is designed to function so as to keep the other electrode of the battery in the state of being constantly electrically connected to one terminal of said illumination means while keeping, in a steady state, the holding means in the state of being removed from the other terminal of the illumination means. Said switching means is movable relative to said body and is designed to displace, by its movement, said holding means in the direction of its axis against the biasing force of said biasing means, thereby permitting the holding means to be electrically connected to the other terminal of said illumination means.
A novel battery powered lamp is disclosed which includes a hollow housing, a light bulb disposed in the housing for external illumination, a battery in the housing and switch means. In one embodiment, the switch means is a rotary switch having a manually rotatable arm extending through the housing, preferably at the rear end, for movement into and out of contact with a contact plate. In another embodiment, a flexible resilient electrically insulative biasing block is interposed between the bulb and battery and bears contacts. The block preferably supports the bulb while biasing the contacts in place against the bulb and battery. In a third embodiment, the bulb is socketless and has its base embedded in the block so that it is suspended in a transparent portion of the housing. Each embodiment is simple to assemble and use, inexpensive to make and maintain, efficient and durable. All are utilizable as portable flashlights and the like, and are capable of being made weatherproof.
A lighting equipment includes a cylindrical tube having a profile formed in a bottom. The profile has a pair of lower grooves and a pair of higher grooves. A barrel, a spring, a cell and a braket are received in the cylindrical tube. A rod is coupled to the bracket. A pin is laterally provided on the rod. The pin is actuated to follow the profile so that the pin is laid in either the upper grooves or the lower grooves. A center electrode of the cell is actuated either to contact or to be separated from a prong of a light bulb in order to turn on or turn off the light bulb.
A flashlight in accordance with the present invention includes a chamber, end cap, head assembly and lamp holder assembly. The end cap includes a bowed tripod portion to facilitate standing the flashlight on a flat surface. The head assembly includes a reflector and a lens. In one embodiment of the invention, the head assembly includes an elliptical reflector. In accordance with another embodiment of the present invention, the flashlight having a elliptical reflector is matched with a negative or planar lens. In accordance with another embodiment of the present invention, the head assembly includes an hyperbolic reflector. In accordance with another embodiment of the present invention, the flashlight having a hyperbolic reflector is matched with a positive or planar lens. In accordance with another aspect of the present invention, the flashlight includes electrode connections which prevent the conduction of electrical energy from batteries which are improperly aligned within the flashlight. In another embodiment, the lamp holder assembly includes a lamp socket having a lamp guide which provides a guide for installing lamp bulbs into the lamp socket and also provides a secure position for the lamp bulb. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, the flashlight includes a lamp holder assembly which includes a notch capable of receiving and holding a spare lamp. In another embodiment, the lamp holder assembly further includes a fluorescent coating or additive which illuminates light in otherwise dark conditions, thereby facilitating lamp replacement in the less than desirable light conditions.
A portable, battery-operated flashlight having improved pivoting, switching and focusing features is disclosed. In one aspect of the invention, the flashlight takes the form of an attachment to a head gear for hands free use. In another aspect of the invention, the flashlight takes the form of a head lamp held in place on an user's head by an elastic band. The pivot connection between the body and the base, as well as the serrations on an exterior surface of the body, allows a user to adjust any angular direction of the light as desired. In another aspect of the invention, the flashlight takes the form of a long-handled flashlight having improved switching and focusing capabilities, such that axial movement of the switching assembly turns the flashlight "on" or "off", as well as causing a position of the lamp to vary in order to focus or defocus the light.
