Abstract
Yarn portions, particularly yarn ends, are joined together without using a knotting technique by positioning the yarn portions alongside each other and introducing such portions through an inlet of apparatus having two passages extending separately away from the inlet. Fluid flow is directed alternately along one then the other of the passages so as to move the yarn portions backwards and forwards between two passages so as to cause the yarn portions to be joined or spliced together.

4796418 - Apparatus for joining two thread ends by splicing - Owned by Maschinenfabrik Schweiter AG (Horgen,CH)

Two parallel-inserted thread ends are introduced into a thread end preparation device via an air gap located above a preparation tube. The thread ends are cut by shears and thereafter an air flow produced in an air intake tube blows the thread ends into the preparation tube. The prepared thread ends are brought by retracting levers into the vicinity of the splicing chamber. The splicing chamber is provided with a cover and splicing is carried out by supplying a compressed air flow. Two thread ends are spliced together after cutting by exposing the two ends to a single air flow to prepare the ends for splicing by untwisting the ends and removing loose thread parts therefrom. The cut and prepared ends are disposed in a splicing chamber and compressed air is passed through the chamber to splice the ends together.

4445318 - Method and device for making a knot-free thread connection by splicing - Owned by W. Schlafhorst & Co. (Monchen-Gladbach,DE)

Method of producing a knot-free thread connection by splicing, which includes mixing, alternately interlocking and anchoring individual fibers of the threads to be joined to each other in a first pre-splicing operation, and subsequently further and finally intertwining and anchoring the threads to each other in a separate finish-splicing operation, and an apparatus for carrying out the method.

4406115 - Method of and means for unraveling a portion of textile yarn - Owned by Fomento de Inversiones Industriales S.A. (Barcelona,ES)

To unravel a terminal portion of a textile yarn, in particular in preparation for joining that yarn to another one by twisting their ends together, an extremity of the yarn is vibrated to loosen the fibers while a part of the yarn spaced from its end is held fast and the yarn extremity is combed or subjected to an aspirated air stream to remove loose fibers. In a preferred arrangement the air stream also causes vibration of a flexible tongue mounted in an air duct alongside the yarn extremity to oscillate its fibers.

4537020 - Process and apparatus for spinning a staple fiber joined to a previously spun yarn - Owned by Textilmaschinenfabrik Dr. Ernst Fehrer Aktiengesellschaft (Leonding,AT)

A yarn joined to a previously spun yarn is spun in friction spinning apparatus which comprises two juxtaposed, closely spaced apart twisting members, which define a triangular space, from which air is sucked. Singled stable fibers supplied to said triangular space are twisted together by said twisting members to form a yarn, which is withdrawn by a withdrawing device. A joint-forming portion of a previously spun yarn is provided in said triangular space in the region in which said fibers are supplied to said space, and said yarn is withdrawn while fibers are supplied to said triangular space so as to contact said joint-forming portion. To provide said previously spun yarn with a joint-forming portion which can satisfactorily be joined to the fibers for the newly spun yarn, the previously spun yarn which has been introduced into the triangular space is untwisted between the twisting members in a portion which is spaced from the rear end of said yarn and the latter is tensioned to detach a rear end portion of said yarn from the untwisted portion of the yarn and is removed from the triangular space before or during the supply of fibers to the triangular space.

6412262 - Device and process for the splicing of textile threads using compressed air and liquid - Owned by Mesdan S.p.A. (Salo',IT)

A device (10, 10') for the splicing of textile threads using compressed air and liquid, which includes a casing on which is assembled a splicing head in which is made a mixing chamber (11), at least one feed duct of air with added liquid which leads into the chamber (11), a valve which is controlled by the immission of compressed air and means to add the liquid to the compressed air before its immission into the chamber (11). The splicing head, with its chamber, is set in an isolated tank from which extends at least one channel for the discharge to the outside of the compressed air with added liquid device. The device (10, 10') has means for creating suction in the water discharge channel or channels (15, 16, 22, 23). In addition, the object of the present invention is a process for the splicing of textile threads using compressed air and liquid.
