Abstract
A garage door opener includes a radio receiver and a push button each operable to initiate a pulse for effecting a switching device which in turn energizes a latching relay. Operation of the latching relay completes an energizing circuit to the appropriate winding of a reversible motor which moves the door toward an open or closed position. A sensing circuit is operable for effecting the reversal of the latching relay to change the direction of motor operation in the event the door engages an object in its path. A foot switch may also be provided for positively sensing an obstacle and reversing the drive motor. A transmitter may be provided with an impulse circuit to limit the duration of the system actuating signal regardless of how long the transmitter push button is depressed.

4455517 - Door activating control circuitry

An improvement in door activating control apparatus including a short delay between the time the door is stopped during its closing direction of travel and starts moving in the opening direction when any one of any switch or button for opening the door is activated, prevents the stress incurred when the door is required to instantly reverse its direction of travel while closing, demonstrates a distinct advantage especially when controlling large heavy doors, or for door openings that require a high volume of traffic and in emergency situations, includes a means to by-pass the delayed reversing when the door is in the closed position. Features a novel means of using a single pole double throw switch which will serve to defeat a safety edge device and by-pass the delayed reversing, embodied in a single enclosure along with the door closing limit switch, all actuated by a single mechanical actuating device at the door closed position, demonstrates distinct advantages in door operator design. Included in the circuit is an improved means to raise the door to a partial open position from a single momentarily actuated button, does not require a partial open limit switch and the height of the partial open position can be easily changed in the field. The improved circuit also provides door opening and closing pilot relays, eliminating the need for motor reversing contactors along with mechanical interlocks and self latching contacts, exhibits significant optional advantages in the selection of motor controlling relays.

4598237 - Power window control apparatus - Owned by Koito Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (Tokyo,JP)

A power window control apparatus has a transmitter, detachably mounted to a fixed member in a compartment, for transmitting coded infrared ray signals corresponding to opening/closing operations of right and left windows of a vehicle and a receiver fixed in the compartment, the receiver being provided with a manual switch for driving the relay circuit independently of the signal from the transmitter, a reset circuit for resetting the decoder for a predetermined period of time after an ignition switch is turned on, and a braking circuit for braking a corresponding one of motors when a driver releases a transmitter switch.

4831509 - Door operation control apparatus - Owned by Byrne & Davidson Doors (N.S.W.)PTY. Limited (Revesby,AU)

A door controller for roller type doors is disclosed incorporating a microprocessor control system. The microprocessor measures and stores the door speed over segments of the door travel to generate a door speed travel characteristic. This characteristic enables the door controller to accurately assess obstruction conditions by comparing a real time characteristic with a stored characteristic. The microprocessor also stores electronically the upper and lower limits of door travel. The microprocessor monitors electric motor duty cycle to avoid overheating of the motor and possible burnout while also controlling locking of the drive mechanism when the motor is inoperative. The microprocessor is also used to set the radio control signal code used to activate the door drive mechanism, the setting procedure allows for immediate verification of the set code.

4335339 - Electronic safety device

An electronic safety device circuit is disclosed. This circuit includes two integrated circuit operational amplifiers, the first connected as an operational amplifier and the second connected as a follower. The output pin of the first amplifier is connected to the positive input pin of the second amplifier through a diode. The positive input pin of the second amplifier is connected to a memory capacitor. The output pin of the second amplifier is connected to the negative input pin of the first amplifier. A switching network is provided for grounding the positive input pin of the first amplifier and discharging the memory capacitor.

5780987 - Barrier operator having system for detecting attempted forced entry - Owned by The Chamberlain Group, Inc. (Elmhurst, IL)

A movable barrier or garage door operator has a barrier drive for moving the movable barrier or garage door between open and closed positions. Motion of the barrier is detected by a tachometer connected to the barrier drive or by upper and lower barrier travel limit switches. A test is made to determine if the barrier has been commanded to be in a closed state and to determine if a preselected time interval has elapsed following closure of the barrier. When both of those conditions are present and the door is moved upward without authorization an alarm signal is generated and can signal the barrier drive to apply a closing force. The timer prevents the barrier from being closed on a person or obstacle during normal operation and prevents injury. An obstacle detector also prevents unwanted closure on an obstacle.
