Abstract
A chain saw guard including a substantially planar shield member pivotally supported to the rear end portion of the guide bar of the chain saw for pivotal movement alongside the chain bar between a lower guard position and an upper inoperative position, spring means urging the shield member downward into the guard position, latch means interconnecting the guide bar and the shield to lock the shield member in its guard position, and a downward projecting trigger element operatively connected to the latch means for releasing the latch means upon upward movement of the trigger element, such as by a log engaging the bottom of the chain saw.

4945641 - Chain saw safety guard

A protective device for a chain saw comprising a generally U-shaped mounting bracket carrying pivot means pivotally supporting an elongate protecting bar spring biased towards a rest position in which the bar extends generally parallel to the chain of the chain saw in use, mounting plate means secured to one side of said mounting bracket and having a rearwardly extending portion formed with openings through which the chain bar mounting bolts of the chain saw pass for securement of said mounting plate to the body of the chain saw by means of the chain bar mounting nuts. The protecting bar has an inverted channel shaped configuration which defines a saw dust confining passage through which the saw dust passes in use. The protecting bar extends beyond the end of the chain of the chain saw to enable contact between the bar and the object to be cut without contact between the chain saw and the object. In one embodiment, a further protecting bar is attached to the lower portion of the mounting bracket to extend along the lower run of the chain of the chain saw.

4430795 - Safety device for chain saw

A chain saw safety improvement is disclosed. Enclosed in a hollow guide bar is a link positioning device which moves the links on the chain into a cutting or safety position. This device is spring tensioned and normally in the safety position. The chain links themselves are pivotable and scythe-shaped, the tips acting as safety tails. When the link positioning device is in its normal safety position, it pushes the safety tails, moving the links into a noncutting position. When tension is manually released by the operator, the links may move into their cutting position.

5035057 - Chain guide for power chain saws

A chain guiding rail for use in power chain saws has a tip part defining an arcuate run-in section extending from an end point of a forward-run section to the vertex of the tip part, and a run-out section extending from the vertex point to a start point of a return-run section. The run-out section has a substantially larger diameter and a tangential line at its center point forms an angle (b8) of 40.degree. to 70.degree. with a center axis of the rail. To eliminate kickbacks during operation of the chain saw the vertex is situated in a sector of the tip part which is delimited by reference line coinciding with the center axis or extending in parallel thereto, a perpendicular line relative to the forward-run section at the end point (E) and to the parallel reference line or the center axis, and an arc whose center of curvature coincides with the point of intersection of the parallel reference line with the perpendicular line.

5850696 - Chain saw guard

A chain saw having a guard member supported above the chain of the saw. The guard is supported by support members at the first and second ends of the chain guide. At the first end of the chain guide the blade is swingably supported and is swingable through a range from a position parallel to the chain guide to a position normal to the chain guide. At the second end of the chain guide the guard bar is releasably supported to hold the guard bar in a guard position parallel to the chain guide and to release the guard bar to swing out of the way when a work piece is being cut.

7284333 - Chainsaw kickback protection device

A chainsaw kickback protection device includes a chain guard and a mounting bracket assembly. The chain guard includes an elongated guard body and a chain-engaging member. The elongated guard body has a channel extending along at least a portion of its length. The chain-engaging member is disposed within the channel extending at least partially along a length of the channel. The mounting bracket assembly includes a mounting bracket and a connection structure. The connection structure is resiliently and pivotably connected between the mounting bracket and the elongated guard body. The connection structure biases the elongated guard body to a non-displaced orientation with respect to the mounting bracket. The connection structure enables the entire elongated guard body to move from the non-displaced orientation to a displaced orientation with respect to the mounting bracket.
