A side guard or lateral protection arrangement for motor vehicles, wherein at least one reinforcement, extending substantially in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, is arranged within each of the side doors. The reinforcements are braced in case of a force effective in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, with each end directly or indirectly against a component fixedly mounted to the vehicle or against a further reinforcement associated with an adjacent door. This bracing takes place in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. The reinforcements are axially adjustable in their lengths so as to bridge a space between an end of the reinforcement means and the component fixedly mounted to the vehicle or further reinforcement, which space results from manufacturing tolerances in the construction of the motor vehicle.
The invention concerns a device for reinforcing a vehicle, in particular, a vehicle equipped with a retractable roof comprising of a rigid ring (3) enclosing the vehicle passenger compartment (4), the rigid ring (3) comprising elements (5,6,7) secured to the fixed parts of a body of the vehicle and of mobile elements (8,9) integrated in an upper part of vehicle doors (1,2), the mobile elements (8,9) being located in an extension of the fixed elements (5,6,7) when the doors (1,2) are closed, each mobile element (8,9) comprising at each of its ends locking devices mobile between an unlocking position and a locking position wherein the mobile elements (8,9,) are rigidly linked to the fixed elements (5,6,7) and form together a ring (3) having a uniformly distributed rigidity about the vehicle passenger compartment (4).
Spacers to be installed between the free end surface of a door and the countersurface of the doorpillar to check movement of the door when the door moves relative to the doorpillar toward the countersurface to prevent any contact of the edge of a flange on the door with adjacent structure opposite the edge of the flange. The spacers are sized to reduce the spacing between the free end surface and the countersurface to a distance less than the clearance between the edge of the door flange and the adjacent structure.
Motor vehicle door 1 with an integrated lattice-type support frame 2 receiving a window lifter. Support frame 2 is mountable in motor vehicle door 1 connected by hinges 36 and 37 with a passenger compartment of a motor vehicle. At least one support 3, 4 of support frame 2 is connected at its connecting ends 45 and 46 with force inleads 47 and 48 disposed in motor vehicle door 1, said inleads being in positive contact with areas of the passenger compartment which are adjacent on both sides with motor vehicle door 1 (FIG. 5).
A hinge for pivotally mounting a first door to a door pillar of a vehicle body of a vehicle. The hinge having been provided thereon one portion of a co-operating latching arrangement for releasably securing in a closed position a second door.
A body structure of a passenger car, and especially of a convertible, features at least one side door on each longitudinal side of the vehicle. The side door, when closed, connects to adjoining fixed pillars via hinges at one end and via a lock assembly at the other end. For improved crash resistance of the body structure of a passenger car, and especially of a convertible, with a rear engine in the event of a head-on collision, a buttress assembly is installed between the rearward rim of the side door and the adjoining lock-side pillar. The buttress assembly effectively holds the side door in its closed position in the event of a head-on collision, while at approximately the level of the buttress assembly, the side door is braced by a hollow strut that extends in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle.
