Abstract
The improved grinder of this invention is provided with a non-circular peripheral surface encompassing an output shaft. The non-circular peripheral surface is arranged to receive a mating hole in a grinder wheel guard. The grinder wheel guard is positioned on the grinder by means of a threaded fastener or the like and is sufficiently large to house an appropriate grinder wheel. The arrangement between the non-circular peripheral surface on the grinder and the mating hole in the grinder wheel guard provides a means for transferring any load imposed on the grinder wheel guard directly into the body or housing of the grinder.

6699114 - Pivotal guards for power hand tools with rotating discs - Owned by Benedict Engineering Company, Inc. (Tallahassee, FL)

Guards for covering rotating discs of power hand tools wherein said guard includes a movable guard for covering a normally exposed portion of a disc and which is pivotably mounted relative to a body of the power tool such that the it is movable from a first covering position in a plane substantially parallel to a rotational plane of the disc to a second withdrawn position in which the movable guard extends generally transversely to the rotational plane of the disc thereby allowing maximum disc coverage yet permitting disc use in restricted spaces.

5347764 - Handle arrangement for air power tool - Owned by Indresco Inc. (Dallas, TX)

An air tool includes a housing containing an air motor with a shaft rotatable about a longitudinal axis and connectable to an implement for working the surface of a workpiece. Power handle and idle handles have upper and lower ends connected to the housing at angularly spaced locations. Air power is supplied to the motor by an air passage extending through the power handle to an intake at the top of the housing. The upper and lower connections of the handles to the housing have axes extending generally perpendicular to each other and vibration insulators prevent metal to metal contact with the housing. One of the vibration insulators also is used in sealing against the loss of power air before entering the motor. Between their upper and lower ends, the handles are slanted at an angle of about fifteen degrees (15.degree.) relative to the axis of the tool.

6464573 - Guard attachment system with knurled clamp ring - Owned by Porter-Cable Corporation (Jackson, TN)

A removable guard for a hand-held power tool. The guard is configured to cover an area proximate a spindle assembly of the tool between the spindle assembly and a user of the tool. The guard is further configured to be securely mounted to a semi-elastic lower bearing housing supporting the spindle assembly of the tool. The guard, when mounted to the semi-elastic lower bearing housing of the tool, and when in use during operation of the tool, must remain functional under conditions of flying debris, such as under conditions of an exploding, rotating abrasive grinding wheel mounted on the spindle assembly of the tool. The guard includes a clamp ring depending from a guard hood. The clamp ring's inner circumferential portion has at least a partially-knurled surface, whereby when securely tightened around the semi-elastic lower bearing housing, the at least partially-knurled surface of the clamp ring inner circumferential portion compresses into the semi-elastic lower bearing housing to securely mount the guard to the tool.

7047585 - Power tool - Owned by WMH Tool Group, Inc. (Palatine, IL)

A power tool in accordance with the invention includes a housing having a handle connected to the housing in at least one position and extending about the rear of the housing with first and second end portions positioned at least in part off the sides of the housing such that the handle allows an operator a range of locations about the housing to facilitate an effective two-handed grip to maintain control over the power tool. The power tool may include an actuator, such as a switch, to regulate power supplied to the tool's motor, and may automatically shift to deactivate the power tool when an unintentional impact above a predetermined magnitude is received by the power tool. The power tool may also include a recess for maintaining an accessory tool and may be designed so that it is both statically and dynamically balanced in order to provide a balanced tool both at rest and during operation, and in order to reduce the amount of vibration experienced by an operator during use of the tool.

6971951 - Power tool with portable power source - Owned by WMH Tool Group, Inc. (Elgin, IL)

A power tool in accordance with the invention includes a housing having an internal compartment with a motor therein, a handle connected to the housing for maneuvering the power tool, a working element connected to and driven by the motor to work on a workpiece, and a removable, portable power source having a first position wherein the power source is located primarily in the internal compartment of the housing and being electrically connected to the motor to provide power to the motor for driving the working element and a second position wherein the power source is located remotely from the housing and detached electrically from the motor. A preferred embodiment of the tool also includes a lock associated with the apparatus which has a lock position that prevents the removable, portable power source from unintentionally becoming separated from the power tool, and an unlock position that enables the removable portable power source to be selectively removed from the internal compartment of the housing and separated from the power tool. A preferred embodiment of the power tool includes the use of a rechargeable, removable, portable power source and an electrical connector which allows the power tool to be powered by an alternate power source located externally of the power tool.
