Abstract
The present invention is directed to a multiple compartment, multiple seal container particularly adapted for packaging plural portions of foods or the like. The device comprises a first container formed of polymeric material or the like and a second container adapted to nest within the first container. A lid member having a skirt extending into the second container provides a seal therefor. The lid and first container, and preferably also the second container, include flange portions disposed in coplanar alignment. A membrane, such as a cellophane membrane, is disposed in registry with the first container and is sealed to the lid and to the first container, and optionally also to the second container, along continuous seal lines, to provide a composite package including discrete compartments having multiple seals.

4697703 - Joint prosthesis package

A package for holding a medical item such as a joint prosthesis part and maintaining the same in a double sterile state includes an inner package and lid each receiving a snap-in insert, a film cover sealing the inner package and lid combination, an outer package containing the combination and a second film cover sealing the outer package. Complementary recesses and lugs are formed on the lid and inner and outer packages to hold these units together. The inserts are provided with projections to engage and cradle the packaged item. A range of inserts is provided to permit the packaging of items of various sizes and configurations without otherwise modifying the package. Alternatively, either the inner package or the lid may include an integrally formed projection and a single insert is carried by the other one thereof.

5819976 - Closure having self-venting, sealed promotion compartment - Owned by Alcoa Closure Systems International (Crawfordsville, IN)

A promotional closure includes a sealed promotion-receiving member in the form of a compartment positioned generally within an outer closure cap, for disposition within an associated container. The sealed configuration of the promotion compartment desirably acts to isolate the promotional element therein from the contents of the container. Use on a container having carbonated contents is particularly facilitated by an arrangement by which a plastic film cover member which seals the compartment is sealed to an annular flange of the compartment to permit predetermined delamination and release of gas pressure from within the interior of the compartment.

4840271 - Improved thermoplastic skin packing means - Owned by Garwood, Ltd. (Victoria,AU)

A package containing skin-packed perishable goods including a base, goods on the base, a flexible plastic web over the goods and the base to, at least partially, skin pack the goods, and a lid for the base. A gas to permeate the web and enhance preservation of the goods is contained in the space between the lid and the skin packed goods.

5916614 - Dual state food packaging - Owned by World Class Packaging Systems, Inc. (Hilton Head, SC)

Dual state packaging may be implemented with a tray having a peripheral flange adapted to receive a pair of membranes to enclose the tray. The lower membrane is the more permeable of the two. It may be attached to a first surface of the flange. The second membrane is attached to a second outer surface of the flange without direct connection except through the tray to the more permeable membrane. The two connection surfaces may be separated by a depression to facilitate the cutting away of the material forming the more permeable membrane in a continuous manufacturing process. With the less permeable membrane in place, a desired gaseous environment may be maintained within the package. When it is desired to change the gaseous environment, the upper less permeable membrane may be peeled away allowing gaseous communication through the lower more permeable membrane.

4648509 - Tamper-proof package and method

Discloses a tamper-proof package for an article. A first container in which the article is placed has a sealed end flap whose opening indicates tampering. The first container is cellophane-wrapped with a tear strip whose tearing open of which indicates tampering. The first container is enclosed in a second container having a sealed top cover, overlying band and vertical tear strip. Tearing off the top cover, tearing apart the band and tearing open the second container via its tear strip provide three further indications of tampering. The second container is enclosed in a pouch having top and bottom sealed ends. Tearing across the sealed ends provides two further indications of tampering.
