This invention relates to a new permanent wave neutralizer and a method for permanently waving and styling hair. The permanent wave neutralizer contains a sufficient amount of citric acid and optionally a salt of citric acid so as to provide a molar concentration of citric ion of at least 0.2 and a pH of between 1.9 and 4.0.
A neutralizer for permanently waving hair containing water, an oxidant and about 0.05 to about 5 weight percent of a hydrolyzed animal protein derivative having quaternary nitrogen groups bonded to the protein amino groups, and a pH value of about 2 to 11. The hydrolyzed animal protein derivative has an isoionic point of at least 9.0 and a viscosity at 10 weight percent solids in water at 25.degree. C. of about 5 to about 40 centipoises.
The second lotion used for permanent wave process by two lotions method comprising a hydrogen peroxide solution having a pH value in excess of 4.5, but not exceeding 7.5 and a hydrogen peroxide concentration of 0.3 wt % or lower, and a process for permanent waving of hair using the said hydrogen peroxide solution as the second lotion. In the process for permanent waving of hair according to the invention, treating with the second lotions preferably carried out at a temperature of 37.degree..about. 40.degree. C. Use of the permanent waving lotion of the present invention can prevent damage of the hair due to the decline of modulus of the hair after repeated permanent waving process.
Hydrogen peroxide-based compositions for the manufacture of, or use as fixers for, permanent-waving/straightening. The compositions comprise hydrogen peroxide and at least one carboxylic acid and/or a salt thereof, for example, citric acid, as well as at least one alkalinizing amino compound, for example, aqueous ammonia. Processes for the permanent-reshaping and/or shape-stabilizing of keratinous materials, especially hair, are also disclosed. The compositions according to the invention make it possible to overcome the drawbacks relating to softness, sensitization to dyeing, etc., associated in the prior art particularly with repeated application to the hair of permanent-waving/straightening operations, in particular those involving the use of carbonate.
A leave-on oxidizing solution useful for permanent waving of hair containing water, an oxidant which is capable of being left on the hair and dried on the hair without damage to the hair, and an acidic agent to provide the solution with a pH value of less than about 7. The use of the leave-on oxidizing solution decreases the amount of time required for carrying out a permanent waving of hair process.
The present invention includes a hair clarifying composition for removing residue from hair. The composition includes an acid component and an amphoteric surfactant. The present invention further includes a method for using the hair clarifying composition to remove residue from the hair.
