A molding process, resinous formulations for use in the process, and the resulting products are disclosed characterized in that the product comprises mainly a bulk or fill resinous body having a film or skin of a cross-linked polyester resin formed about the body. Even though the body has intricate curving surface contours, the film is smooth and free of surface tears and blemishes. The product is molded by first spraying formulated, dry particles of a partially cured polyester resin against a hot mold to cause the particles to fuse and flow and form a substantially continuous skin or film on the mold. Thereafter, the bulk resin is added and the mold is heated to cure the polyester resin as well as the bulk resin and to interreact the bulk and polyester resins together to mold the bulk resin with a film of the polyester resin.
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
This application is a division of an application, Ser. No. 002,658, filed Jan. 11, 1979, now U.S. Pat. No. 4,205,028.
Resin is mixed with graphite particles to form a blendable, processable premold coating. When the premold coating is incorporated onto the surface of a premold coated molded plastic product produced by the premold process, said coating is rendered electrostatically conductive.
The present invention is a multilayered composite comprising an inner core layer of a crystalline polymer and a glass filler, and an outer skin layer of a crystalline polymer and a mineral filler wherein the outer skin layer surrounds the inner core layer.
The hardness and appearance of an in-mold coating for a molded article of cured unsaturated polyester are improved by the addition of melamine and/or benzoguanamine to an unsaturated polyester powder coating composition and subjecting the modified powder coating to a molding temperature of from about 260.degree. F. to about 340.degree. F. and a pressure of from about 650 psi to about 2,000 psi for from 1 to 12 minutes. From about 5 to about 40 parts of the melamine and/or benzoguanamine per hundred parts by weight of the coating resin is used.
The invention relates to crystalline unsaturated polyester, consisting of segments derived from a mainly hydroxy-terminated, unsaturated polyester, bound through urethane bonds to units derived from a (poly)isocyanate and further, if desired, in an amount that is at most relatively small, units, bound via urethane bonds, that are derived from a diol containing between 2 and 12 carbon atoms and/or from a diamine containing between 2 and 12 carbon atoms and/or from an alkanolamine containing between 2 and 12 carbon atoms.
The invention relates to a moulding compound based on thermosetting resin material and optionally fibers, fillers, curing catalysts and further usual additives, and is characterized in that the moulding compound comprises a mixture of at least two thermosetting resins of which a first resin is in a partly cured state, and of which a second resin is not, or less than the first resin in a partly cured state.
