Abstract
A method and apparatus for manufacturing window envelopes is provided. After an opening has been cut in an envelope blank and glue applied around the opening, a window patch is secured over the opening and a panel secured behind the window patch. The panel serves as the rear panel of a pocket portion formed behind the window. When the envelope blank is folded and glued into its intended form, it will include both a relatively large compartment and a relatively small pocket. The window patch and pocket panel are cut from webs traveling at unequal speeds and transferred to an envelope blank through the use of cylinders having suction means therein. The patch and panel are carried by a first cylinder which rotates them to a position where they are adjacent a second cylinder. At this point, suction within the first cylinder is terminated so that the suction means within the second cylinder will draw the patch and panel thereto. The second cylinder rotates about its axis and applies the patch and panel to an envelope blank.

4535584 - Device for bonding an article to a commodity - Owned by Tetra Pak International Akteibolag (Alle Lund,SE)

A device for contact bonding an article to a commodity which includes a vacuum transfer device and an adhering device. The vacuum transfer device includes a rotatable transfer drum, a plurality of suction pipes provided on the periphery of the transfer drum and a plurality of Venturi tubes for generating a vacuum when compressed air is passed therethrough. The adhering device is a pusher plate which operates in conjunction with the vacuum transfer device to adhere a package to a commodity and the pusher plate is moved such that it is in synchronism with the circular movement of a bucket wheel and moves in a direction tangential to the bucket wheel adhering device.

5941517 - Method and apparatus for decollating stacked blanks

A method and an apparatus for decollating blanks of cardboard or the like stacked behind a stop in a feeding station from a magazine or stack of blanks and for feeding the blanks to a transfer station of a subsequent process operated in a machine cycle, wherein the apparatus includes at least one delivery conveyor arranged underneath the stack of blanks, and wherein the delivery conveyor includes a conveyor belt and a belt guide for the controlled removal of the respectively lowermost blank and for conveying the blank to the timed subsequent process. The transfer station of the subsequent process controls the speed of the delivery conveyor which operates without fixed cycle.

6425323 - Method and apparatus for disposing of web material

In a method and an apparatus for disposing of thin, flexible material, which is in the form of a material web moved in the web direction and supplied to the disposal apparatus, a front web section at the front in the movement direction is held fast in areal manner by first holding means and a second web section spaced behind the same is held fast in areal manner by second holding means. The web material is separated by a separating device in an exposed and optionally taut intermediate section located between the retained web sections. Even tear-sensitive material can be reliably held by the flat-engaging holding means. The separation of web material held on both sides under the action of a knife or the like can take place in troublefree manner, particularly without drawing in the material. The apparatus can be used with particular advantage for the continuous disposal of used stamping film in hot stamping devices.

5294042 - Exteriorly controlled addressing system for window mailers

A mailer for use with computer printing techniques. The mailer utilizes die-cut window envelopes provided with a transparent window web an undersurface of which is coated with a chemical composition. A sheet contained in the envelope and visible through the window is coated on its surface presented to the window with a second, different chemical composition. The coating compositions are characterized in that impression of impact printing forces against the window web and applied therethrough to the underlying coated sheet produces impact-pattern-correlated visual imprints on the envelope-housed sheet, the imprints being clearly viewable through the transparent web of the envelope window.

5410857 - Process for making windowed form, fill and seal bags - Owned by Vitex Packaging, Inc. (Suffolk, VA)

A process for making windowed form, fill and seal bags (70) for containing perishable and/or nonperishable goods involves linearly conveying an endless strip of paper-like material (12) through an adhesive application station (14) which applies adhesive to an adhesive side (18) of the endless strip of paper-like material throughout, with the exception of a window area (34) on each individual bag form (36a, b, c, etc.) making up the endless strip. The endless strip is then conveyed through a synchronized window-blanking station (44) which cuts a window blank (54) from each window area so as to form a window opening (50) therein. The adhesive side is then adhered to a transparent plastic heat-sealable film (58). Side edge margins (32) are slit from the endless strip of paper material to leave a composite endless form (10) for, in turn, making the flexible windowed, form, fill and seal bags (70) for containing perishable and/or nonperishable goods. To make these bags, the individual bag forms (36a, b, c, etc.) are cut from the composite endless form material and folded so that the heat-sealable film (58) is in contact with itself at overlapping edges of the bag form and these edges are then heat-sealed together.
