An instruction set for solving a specific mathematical problem includes a column of sheet material for manual entry of data in appropriate horizontal spaces as designated by the instruction set. The spaces include color indicia corresponding to color indicia appearing on function keys of an electronic calculator. A carrier is provided to receive the sheet material column with the carrier being slidably received within the calculator. The calculator includes an aperture which successively exposes each horizontal space when the carrier is moved relative to the calculator housing. To solve the problem, the user enters the numerals appearing in the space exposed by the aperture by depressing appropriate calculator numeral keys and then depresses the calculator function key corresponding to the color appearing within the aperture. In some instances, the numerical data appearing in selected spaces may be preprinted. In an alternate embodiment, a bracket removably attaches to the calculator housing. The bracket receives the carrier and includes an aperture for exposing spaces on the column.
Payee names in received financial statements can be substituted for the benefit of users. The financial statements can be electronically received from a financial services provider. The financial statements typically comprise transaction entries that comprise an original payee name. A user can indicate a preferred name for the original payee name. If a match exists between an original name and a preferred name, the preferred name can be substituted for the original payee name. If a match does not exist, an active payee table can be used to display an original payee name.
An electronic calculating device for conveniently calculating a percentage of a value, as is often performed in a restaurant or bar when calculating a gratuity based on the amount of a bill is provided. The invention is a device having a first side and a second side, with a control mechanism on the first side which the server or diner can use to input a bill amount. A control mechanism is positioned on the second side for causing a processor to calculate a percentage value of the bill amount. Preferably, a display is provided for displaying the percentage value or tip amount, as well as the total of the tip and the amount of the bill.
