Abstract
A recloseable bag package is provided by closing the top of a filled bag to form a neck, preferably trimming the walls of the bag to the same height, folding over a portion of the neck, preferably only once, and sealing the folded over portion of the neck to a side wall of the bag using a composite tape comprising a length of a first tape having a non-setting adhesive coating on one surface and a length of a second tape overlapping one edge of the adhesive coated surface of the first tape. The first tape seals or reseals the bag, and the second tape provides a tab for peeling the first tape partially from the bag to open the package and also provides a vehicle for coupons or other printed matter. Apparatus is provided to close, trim and fold the bag and to form and apply the lengths of composite tape.

5493842 - Apparatus for the formation and application of a sealing flap to seal the mouth of a filled sack, starting from a continuous strip of heat-sealable material - Owned by Concetti S.p.A. (Bastia Umbra PG,IT)

An apparatus for forming and applying a sealing flap to seal the mouth of a filled sack, starting from a continuous strip (9) of heat-sealable material includes a first loop conveyor to unwind the strip from the feeder roll and transfer it, using clamp means (10, 11, 12, 13) and guide means (14), to a second loop conveyor (15), likewise provided with clamp means (21, 22, 23, 24) to hold the strip (9). Between the first and the second conveyor (1, 15) cutting means (28, 29) are provided to cut the strip (9) when the section of the latter transferred to the second conveyor (15) has reached a pre-set length corresponding to the width of the sack (31) to be sealed. The second conveyor is associated with a shaping device (26) which, during advance of the strip (9), folds the strip itself until it is substantially in the shape of an upside down U, thus forming the sealing flap (32). The second conveyor (15) moves between a first upturned position around the end adjacent to the first conveyor (1), corresponding to the formation stage of said sealing flap (32), and a horizontal position, corresponding to the positioning stage of the sealing flap (32) over the mouth of the sack (31) to be closed ready for subsequent sealing. (FIG. 1)

6869009 - Carton with top dispensing feature - Owned by Graphic Packaging International, Inc. (Marietta, GA)

A carton with a new type of dispenser that is placed midway between the ends of the carton adjacent a fold line between the top panel and adjoining side panel. The dispenser is designed so that it is slightly larger than the diameter of the bottom ends of from two to three containers. The dispenser may have a push tab or starting flap to aid in commencing tearing the dispenser flap open. A coupon may be located on the inside or outside of the dispenser flap.

6800051 - Process for manufacturing side fold sacks made of plastic film - Owned by Windomeller & Hoelscher (Lengerich,DE)

A method for manufacturing side fold sacks from a flat lying segment of a web of plastic tubular film provided with side folds. According to the method, the bottom end of the segment is provided in such a manner with a staggered cut or a staggered detachment along a perforation that a staggered portion is formed in which the rear wall projects beyond the front wall. Adhesive is applied to the staggered portion up to the area of a fold line, which is located adjacent the edge of the front wall that has been cut free. The staggered portion is then folded over the fold line and adhered onto the front wall to seal the bottom end of the side fold sack.

5540806 - Tabletop pressure sealer - Owned by Moore Business Forms, Inc. (Grand Island, NY)

A pressure sealer for sealing pressure sensitive adhesive strips on business forms or the like is simple and straight forward, for use primarily in manual operations. First and second driven rollers convey business forms during sealing, and are driven by a single motor driven gear meshing with Delrin gears integral with the rollers. Pressure applying rollers are mounted above and in alignment with first and second rollers, and are biased by an adjustable spring mechanism to provide the necessary pressure to effect sealing. The spring force applying mechanism can also be disabled so that no force is applied to allow ready inspection and/or replacement of the components, by utilizing a particular procedure including replacing one bolt with a longer thinner bolt. Pinching of the operator's fingers is prevented by a flap disposed in association with a lead-in platform for the forms, just prior to the rollers. The second roller in the direction of form conveyance may a slightly larger diameter than the first roller to effect pull-up of a document feeding from the first roller to the second roller.

4903844 - Release coating on cigarette carton top flap - Owned by R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company (Winston-Salem, NC)

A cigarette carton structure having a releasable adhesive seal to permit reopening of a temporarily sealed carton without damage to the carton. The seal includes a release coating on one of two carton surfaces to be adhesively joined. One of the surfaces may be a top flap and the other surface may be a closure flap. An adhesive is placed on the release coating, and the two surfaces are joined. The release coating may be a weakly cohesive material such as a metallic ink printed on the carton surface so that when the surfaces are separated, the release coating separates without damaging the carton. Alternatively the release surface can be a layer of material that adheres poorly to the adhesive, so that the adhesive readily separates from the release layer. In either case the initial temporary bonding must be sufficiently strong to allow handling, packing and unpacking of the cartons without premature opening.
