A round of ammunition for use in training comprises a standard brass cartridge case (1) containing a reduced propellant charge (14) and a bullet (2) of standard shape comprising a core (3) of rigid polyurethane foam and an external skin (14) of unfoamed polyurethane. The core and skin can be moulded integrally. The round is designed for firing in an automatic weapon and actuating its automatic mechanism. The skin of the bullet should be not less than 0.02 mm thick to withstand handling, and not more than 0.10 mm thick to avoid production of large fragments thereof on firing. The bullet can have opposite ends both of ogival form to facilitate manufacture and operation. The round is mainly for small arms up to 10 mm caliber.
This cartridge includes a tubular casing with a firing pin member fixed within the casing intermediate its ends. A frangible projectile is frictionally and sealingly retained in the front compartment of the casing. A piston is located in the rear compartment and consists of a transverse wall exposed at the rear end of the casing, and of a forwardly-extending sleeve slidable within the rear compartment. A primer cap is located within the piston sleeve and has a transverse deformable wall abutting against a boss rearwardly projecting from the firing pin member. The latter includes passages communicating the rear and front compartments. When a plunger actuated by the firing arm pushes the piston forwardly, the firing boss deforms the primer cap transverse wall and cause detonation of the propellant charge. The propellant gases first move the piston rearwardly to uncover the firing cap housing, whereby the gases are expanded in the rear compartment before reaching behind the projectile in the front compartment. Therefore, the projectile is propelled without being ruptured.
An ammunition cartridge having a reduced propellant charge and an initial duced cartridge volume is provided. The cartridge volume is reduced by partially filling the cartridge case with a foam filler using a male mold form. The male mold form is sized to provide the desired propellant volume and tapered to maintain the desired cartridge pressure during the propellant burn. Alternately, the foam filler may be formed externally and inserted into the cartridge case. In that embodiment, an adhesive retainer is used to secure the foam filler to the base of the case. During firing, the foam filler is turned into a gas, thereby providing the large volume of the case for expansion of the propellant gases. After firing, the case is free of residue, all of the foam filler having been expelled as a gas.
A nonlethal canister tank round comprising a cartridge having a combustible case and containing propellant; a canister projectile attached to the cartridge, the canister projectile being generally cylindrical, comprising high density polyurethane foam and including a body and a cap for closing an open end of the body, the body defining a payload space therein; and a payload disposed in the payload space, the payload comprising one of rubber balls, fin stabilized projectiles, an inert material and fillable fin stabilized projectiles.
A low-temperature water-based atmospheric cooker for food products such as fish, meat and poultry is provided, and includes a hydrostatically-sealed cooking chamber having in upper wall and a supporting side wall, a conveyor belt within the cooking chamber having an inner-most edge and an-outer most edge, the belt having a path rising circuitously within the cooking chamber wherein each tier of the conveyor belt generally passes over another tier of the conveyor belt to form a generally spiral central belt path within the chamber, an entry portion of the belt path receiving uncooked food product into the cooking chamber, an exit portion of the belt path for discharging cooked food product from the cooking chamber; means for supporting the conveyor belt in the generally spiral central belt path; means for driving the conveyor belt in the generally spiral central belt path; a reservoir of heated water for spraying onto the food products; a plurality of outer water-spraying nozzles for spraying the heated water onto the food product and for creating a cooking atmosphere within the hydrostatically-sealed cooking chamber, the plurality of outer water-spraying nozzles generally surrounding the belt path from a direction facing inward towards the outer-most edge of the belt; and, a plurality of inner water-spraying nozzles for spraying the heated water onto the food product and for creating a cooking atmosphere within the hydrostatically-sealed cooking chamber, the plurality of inner water-spraying nozzles generally surrounding the central belt path from a direction facing outward towards the inner-most edge of the belt.
An ammunition article includes a molded plastic cartridge casing body having a first end and a second end, and a projectile attached to the first end of the cartridge casing body. The cartridge casing body is molded around at least a portion of the projectile. A molded plastic base for an ammunition article, a molded plastic blank cartridge, and a molded plastic cartridge casing body having a pronged web are also disclosed.
