Abstract
A display controller drives a nine digit, seven segment display in accordance with desired display formats for preselected lengths of time. The controller accepts control commands and data by means of a serial three wire asynchronous link. The display controller includes the capability for receiving binary data and converting it to binary coded decimal data for subsequent display and further includes the capability for scaling data as well as performing self tests to insure that the display is functioning correctly following a power outage.

4814754 - Monitoring system - Owned by Fuji Electric Company Ltd. (Kawasaki,JP)

A monitoring system for a serial transmission line which analyzes serial data received from a serial transmission line on the basis of a protocol or a data format for serial transmission and converts the serial data into display data, thereby monitoring the serial data. The system converts all or a portion of the data being displayed in one coding format and displays the fresh display data (for example, data displayed in HEX coding is converted and displayed in ASCII coding).

5003492 - Display apparatus having data reset arrangement for fast changing of digital display - Owned by U.S. Philips Corporation (New York, NY)

The two-digit number displayed by a display apparatus (1) is adjusted by means of a microcontroller (4) in response to actuation of increment (5) and decrement (6) keys. Each new actuation of the increment key results in incrementation of the displayed number by unity. However, if this actuation is prolonged the first number in each succeeding higher ranking decade are next displayed in direct succession. Similarly, each new actuation of the decrement key results in decrementation of the displayed number of unity. However, if this actuation is prolonged the first number of the current decade and then the first number of each decade of successively lower rank are next displayed in direct succession.

5565745 - Communications protocol

A protocol for communication between devices connected via a bus having three handshake lines and at least one data line. A first device controls two of the three handshake lines, and a second device controls the third. The first device mixes toggling of the first and second handshake lines in a pattern which identifies a type of information packet. The second device polls the first and second handshake lines, and from the toggling pattern identifies the packet type. Once identified, the packet is transmitted according to a predefined format for the type. Typically, transmission of information is completed asynchronously using the handshake lines to carry request and acknowledge signals. In one embodiment, the protocol is implemented in a virtual reality system having a video game console as a first device and a head mounted display as the second device.

6927750 - External display device of refrigerator and method for controlling the same - Owned by LG Electronics Inc. (Seoul,KR)

An external display device of a refrigerator which includes a microprocessor enabling a serial data transmission/reception between the external display device and a control unit included in the refrigerator. The microprocessor is coupled with a second microprocessor included in the control unit by two voltage supply lines and a minimum number of data transmission lines. Data transmission/reception between the two microprocessor is carried out in an asynchronous serial manner while using an appropriate data format so that each microprocessor recognizes the operation condition of the counter microprocessor. Accordingly, it is possible to simplify the configuration of signal lines required between the external display device and control unit, irrespective of the complexity of functions required. By virtue of the simplified signal line configuration, it is possible not only to reduce costs, but also to reduce the amount of work required in the passing of signal lines through a hinge hole to couple the external display device to the control unit.
