Abstract
A hinge device for break-open type firearm comprises two pair of arcuate ridges on the breech slidably received in complementary grooves formed in parallel sidewalls of a receiver. One pair of ridges and complementary grooves is located forwardly of the hinge axis, with one ridge and its associated groove on each side of the ridge, and the other pair of the ridges and complementary grooves is located rearwardly of the hinge axis. In the closed position of the firearm, the ridges and grooves are generally upright, so that their flanks or sidewalls include a large angle with the line of action of the recoil forces.

6705035 - Barrel balancing device for collapsible firearms - Owned by Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta S.p.A. (Brescia,IT)

A barrel balancing device for collapsible firearms (20) wherein at least one barrel (9) which is rotatable about a fixed hinging point (7) arranged on a action body (6), wherein an open-close top lever (13) is provided between a closed aligned position of the at least one barrel (9) and the action body (6), and a position disengaged and rotated upon opening of said at least one barrel (9) with respect to said action body (6), the at least one barrel (9) being carried by an iron fore-end (8), wherein at least one elastic or viscoelastic group (21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26) is foreseen which interacts between the iron fore-end and the action body to oppose the falling motion of the at least one barrel (9), once the open-close top lever (13) is unlocked, and to realize a balancing push with respect to the weight of the at least one barrel (9) when the collapsible firearm (20) is closed.

6766795 - Paintball gun having a hinged receiver and method for making same - Owned by Pursuit Marketing, Inc. (Schiller Park, IL)

The invention provides an improved gun for firing a projectile comprising a grip, a receiver, a projection on either the grip or receiver and a retainer fixedly attached to the other, so that the projection and retainer selectively engage each other, retaining the grip and receiver in a fixed relationship. The apparatus provides a safety retainer and a safety projection, whereby the safety retainer and safety projection engage one another when the hammer is in the ready position, maintaining the grip and receiver in the fixed relationship. A safety member is provided preventing the retainer from disengaging the projection when the hammer is in the ready position, and blocking the hammer from moving into the ready position when the retainer is not in the first position and the hammer is not in the ready position. The invention provides a process for making a receiver for firing a projectile.

7207130 - Over-and-under shotgun apparatus and method - Owned by Browning Arms Company (Morgan, UT)

An over-and-under shotgun apparatus includes a radius track which serves as a hinge for articulating the barrel portion of the shotgun apparatus relative to the receiver/stock portion of the shotgun apparatus. The radius track is defined by a female or concave portion formed on the monoblock attached to the shotgun barrels, and a male or convex portion formed on the frame or receiver section. The radius track defines a pivot axis that is spaced from the radius track. The radius track provides a substantial surface area sufficient to absorb all of the recoil force generated when the shotgun is discharged. No additional abutment surfaces are needed. A further aspect of the invention involves a novel trigger assembly, including a striker which moves toward the front end of the firearm when the firearm is cocked, and moves toward the butt end of the firearm when the trigger is pulled to discharge the firearm. Yet another novel aspect of the invention relates to a four-position safety switch for selecting the firing sequence of the upper and lower barrels.
