Abstract
A replaceable marine fender mechanism according to the present invention is adapted for connection to marine structures such as the cylindrical legs of offshore platforms to prevent vessels and other objects from impacting against the platform legs and causing damage. The fender mechanism is supported by upper and lower energy cells with the lower energy cell having a stabbing and positioning receptacle that is adapted to receive a stabbing and positioning portion defined at the lower extremity of an elongated fender post. The upper extremity of the bumper post is releasably supported by a bolted connected structure that is presented at the free extremity of an upper energy cell that is also securable to the leg structure of the offshore platform. A cylindrical fender element is receivable about the fender post and is supported by a connector element to the upper energy absorbing structure. The lower portion of the fender post is provided with internal positioning element that establishes a close fitting relation with the inner peripheral surfaces of the resilient fender and thereby precludes transverse movement of the fender relative to the fender post.

A bumper piling attachment apparatus is provided for securing a cylindrical boat bumper to a piling of a dock and positioning the bumper between the dock and the moored boat. The apparatus forms a circumcolumnar attachment around a piling and rests on the deck of the dock. A flexible section is fixed between the boat and the dock and contains within the flexible section a cylindrical boat bumper. The cylindrical boat bumper absorbs the shock of the boat as it moves in relation to the dock. The apparatus may be fixed to the piling or easily detached and moved from dock to dock.

A first arm projects outwardly from the upright element above the water line for fixed attachment to the leg of the platform above the water line. A second, submerged arm projects outwardly from the upright element and is pivotally connected below the water line to the leg. This structure allows the bumper to be quickly and efficiently replaced with a minimum amount of diver time required. The bumper is easily positioned in a vertical orientation regardless of the slope of the platform leg, and all welding is performed above the surface of the water.

A vehicle impact system includes a road accommodating vehicle traffic in a direction along its center line, a support structure and first and second adjacent energy-absorbing fender elements supported by the support structure and extending adjacent to the road. Each of the first and second adjacent energy-absorbing fender elements includes an elastomeric leg extending non-parallel from the support structure and a contact panel extending from the leg. The contact panel has a contact surface extending substantially parallel to the road center line, a forward end and a rearward end. The forward end of the first adjacent fender element faces the rearward end of the second adjacent fender element such that when the contact surface of the first adjacent fender element is engaged by a vehicle, the leg of the first adjacent fender element resiliently flexes to move the forward end of the first adjacent fender element into engagement with the rearward end of the second adjacent fender element.

A lock and dam system for a waterway includes a dam extending across the waterway, a channel having a first entry-exit opening on a first side of the dam and a second entry-exit opening on a second side of the dam. The channel includes a lock. The system further includes a fascia proximate first entry-exit opening in the channel, and a fender system to protect the fascia from impact. The fender system includes a plurality of resilient flexible support element, a first panel supported by a first one of the plurality of support elements in front of the fascia and a second panel supported by a second one of the plurality of support elements in front of the fascia. The first and second panels overlap in a first direction parallel to the fascia and a second direction perpendicular to the fascia. In one exemplary embodiment, the first panel has a first shoulder and the second panel has a first step facing and overlapping the first shoulder. In the exemplary embodiment, the first and second panels have front surfaces which are substantially coplanar.

The system includes a first panel, a second panel, a first support element coupled to one of the first and second panels and coupled to the at least one fascia and a second support element coupled to one of the first and second panels and coupled to the at least one fascia. The first support element extends oblique to said one of the first and second support panels with the second support element extends oblique to said one of the first and second panel. The first and second support elements consecutively extend along at least one of the first and second panels and extend parallel to one another.
