A portable, elongated support pillow that when propped between the chin and lap of the user limits both head and torso movements caused by resting or sleeping while sitting in an upright position. The pillow is a single unit having a top contour, a bottom contour and a center section. The top contour is a crescent shaped headrest that cradles the chin and face, the bottom contour conforms to the top of the user's thigh, and the center section connects the top contour to the bottom contour. The top and bottom sections have a wider width than the center section giving the pillow an hourglass-shape. The support pillow is encased in a cover having sling style pockets, adapted to accommodate a user's arms or a strap.

A head support system for supporting the user's head in an at least generally upright disposition, while the user, for example, naps or sleeps or otherwise rests while traveling sitting in a seat. The head support element (1) interfaces with the underside of and, preferably, up and around the front of the chin, i.e., the mental proturberance with its central clef, and underneath the user's chin and from side-to-side of and along side the chin, i.e., the mandible body, in "face-to-face" surface engagement over a relatively large area, essentially forming a supportive cup for the chin, with a self-supporting but soft, solid block of molded, supportive material having an oblong shape with a reduced sized central portion (10) for hand grasping, with its angled, flat bottom (31) resting centrally on the central upper chest area of the user, preferably over and across the manubrium sterni area, with an anchoring strap (41) positioned, for example, around and about the back of the user's neck. The support element is at least generally "Y" shaped with a laterally enlarged base (30) when viewed from the front (FIG. 2). The anchoring strap subsystem (40) includes a "break-away" string-like line (42) attached to the strap with terminal ends (42a/42b) that extend to the front loosely connected to the block and extend through and past a push-button/barrel lock (43).

An apparatus for maintaining airway passages open that includes a base and a horizontal bar member slidably connected to a U-shaped member attached to the base. A pair of posts having padded heads or end members for contacting the mandibular angle of a jaw of a person are rotationally attached to a bolt that extends from the base adjacent the end of the U-shaped member and a bolt that extends from the base proximate the end of the horizontal bar member. Rotation of the posts about the bolts allows for the adjustment of the height of the posts. The posts and bolts may also be pivoted to position the padded end members to correctly contact the jaw of the person. Sliding the horizontal bar member in relation to the U-shaped member allows for the distance between posts to be adjusted to accommodate the different sized heads of different people.

A support device for supporting the head and/or portion of the upper body of a seated person in a forward leaning semi-reclining position includes a base to be placed on a generally horizontal surface, with support legs and an upright member, an extension tube adjustably positioned parallel to the upright member, and a head or body support connected to the upper end of the extension tube. In an alternative embodiment a pair of wheels is connected to the base and the legs are adapted to be positioned for supporting a piece of luggage, allowing the device to additionally serve as a luggage cart. In an improvement to a conventional luggage cart, an adjustable head support is added to the frame of the luggage cart so the cart may be used as a support device for a seated person.

The headrest provides support to the person's head, thereby relieving neck fatigue and other various discomforts. A one-piece headrest (10) is formed as a single piece and includes a back mounted support plate (14) having concave central body portion (16) and side wings (17 and 18) which straddle the person's spine to increase comfort, reduce movement of the head rest, and increase stability of the back mounted support plate when attached to the person's upper back. The second embodiment is a two-piece headrest (110) that includes a separate head support portion (120) and a back mounted support plate (114). The head support portion is pivotally connected to the back mounted support plate and a spring (125) urges the head support portion toward the person's head so that support can be provided to the person's head over a continuous angle range of backwardly tilted head positions. A locking mechanism (130) can be provided which enables the person to fix the angular position of the head support portion (112). Three strap systems have been developed for use by individuals using the headrest for different applications; belayers wearing a belayer's climbing harness, workmen wearing a tool belt attached to the waist, and persons using leg straps. The straps releasably attach to the climbing harness, tool belt or leg straps.
