A headband comprises first and second headbands having their one ends pivotally interconnected and being foldable about their pivotal interconnection inwardly and outwardly in a single plane and having opposite ends with an earpiece carried thereby. Each of the headbands include at least three separate parts telescopically interengageable and which are of substantially equal lengths. Advantageously the central part may be made of plastic and includes a tubular portion into which the next adjacent part is telescopical. The tubular portions are advantageously provided at each end of the central part to permit a telescopic movement of each of the other parts into the middle part.
A stereo headphone has a generally "U"-shaped head band provided with a pair of head band support rails at opposite ends thereof. End portions of the head band are received for sliding extension and retraction withing the support rails. A speaker support frame is secured to each of the support rails. A conventional speaker is mounted within each of the support frames. A pair of mounting bars are connected to each of the speaker support frames. An adjustable linkage allows compound adjustment of the mounting bars with respect to the support frames. A vibrational audio output disc is provided on an end portion of each of the mounting bars. A switch on each of the support frames allows selective actuation of each of the speakers. In use, the speakers of the headphones are received over the ears of a user in a conventional fashion. The vibrational audio output discs are then positioned by virtue of the compound adjustment linkage adjacent the temples of the user. This secondary vibrational audio output provides an enhanced listening effect.
Headset framework apparatus designed to be worn around the back of the head, and supported, in part, by the ears of the user, and, in part, by the nape, or back of, the user's neck. The framework and support means of the apparatus, is preferably, substantially U-shaped, and may be further shaped, such that it generally conforms to the user's neck and head. At least one integral, or detachable, speaker means is provided, which extends from the framework and support means, proximate to the ear of the user. A microphone may also be provided, if desired. Visual display means attached to the framework are also provided. Also, electronic component means, may be integral with, or removably attachable to, the nape supported member of the framework and support means, or may be located at other than the site of the headset framework apparatus, and operatively connected thereto.
Stereo speakers 30 can be disconnected from a crossover headband 10 and clipped onto a variety of headwear in use today, such as a baseball cap, sweatband or sunvisor. A spring-loaded base piece and socket 24 allows the speaker 30 to adjust at an angle perpendicular to the user's ears and rotate 360 degrees laterally to the ear without removing the speakers from the head.
An aircraft headset includes a headset band, including a head element and a pair of ear cup supports slidably received in the head element, ear cups pivotally attached at one end of each ear cup support; and a microphone boom pivotally attached to one of the ear cups; an improved ear cup tensioning mechanism including a tongue extending laterally from each end of the headset band and a conformal tongue receiver located adjacent the other end of each ear cup support; wherein the tongue receiver is conformal with the tongue, and wherein the tongue and the tongue receiver are constructed and arranged to provide near-constant lateral pressure between the ear cups and a wearer's head. An improved ear cup seal includes an outer seal covering formed of urethane-coated expanded vinyl; an inner flexible layer formed of scythed urethane foam; wherein the inner flexible layer has a memory which returns the ear seal to its original configuration when pressure is released therefrom, and wherein the ear cup seal has a variable configuration having its thickest region behind and below a wearer's ear, along the wearer's neck, and having its thinnest region adjacent the front of the wearer's ear along the jaw line. An improved microphone housing includes a hard outer shell having a cavity therein; and sound-absorbing material located inside the outer shell which enclose the microphone element.
A system and method for a collapsible headphone unit is provided. Generally, the system contains a first extendable sidepiece and a second extendable sidepiece, both rotatably attached to a top member. The first extendable sidepiece is attached to a first earpiece, and the second extendable sidepiece is attached to a second earpiece. Each earpiece has an open portion that fits against the ear of the user. The first and second extendable sidepieces may be extended, thereby allowing the first and second earpieces to pivot, resulting in the open portions of the first and second earpieces being directly opposed, and allowing the first and second earpieces and the first and second extendable sidepieces to fold upward toward the top member.
