Abstract
A portable belt sander includes a housing, a driving roller journalled therein, a motor with a transmission arranged in the housing for driving the roller, a control-roller journalled in a subframe movable relative to the housing and an endless sanding belt passed around the two rollers. The driving roller has a running surface whose width is materially smaller than that of the sanding belt.

5319887 - Hand sander - Owned by Robert Bosch GmbH (Stuttgart,DE)

A hand belt sander has a housing, a drive roller and a deflecting roller both rotatably supported in the housing, the deflecting roller being arranged at a distance from the drive roller movable between a substantially axes-parallel arrangement and out of the axes-parallel arrangement with the drive roller, an endless sanding belt guided along the rollers, a guide plate located in the housing and carrying a control plate with an end for receiving the deflecting roller and being displaceable together with the control plate, a lever arm sensing a position of the sanding belt by a stop part and acting on the position of the sanding belt, a swivel arm around which the lever arm is swivelable and which extends perpendicular relative to the guide plate. The swivel arm sits in the guide plate. The control plate is swivelable around the swivel axle together with the ends and extends toward the guide roller so as to form the swivel arm in a one-piece element, and also carries the stop part.

5007205 - Tensioner release and mechanism for belt sanders - Owned by Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation (Brookfield, WI)

A roller carrying yoke is mounted on the base of the belt sander for pivotal movement about a pivot screw as controlled by the adjusting mechanism which includes a carriage bolt non-rotatably mounted in a slot in the yoke. The slot allows movement of the yoke relative to the bolt. The bolt projects through a hole in the housing and threads into the knob. A spring compressed between the yoke and the housing frictionally loads the knob so it holds adjustment. The yoke moves the roller away from the fixed roller until the roller engages and is limited by a belt. Then the loading spring is stretched to tension the belt. The tension spring force is cancelled out as the lever is actuated to pull the roller back for belt removal. When the cam follower on the yoke engages the cam (operated by the lever) the spring length remains constant and the actuating force is minimal.

6159085 - Structure for use in a power driven tool for collecting dust generated by the operation of the tool - Owned by Makita Corporation

There is provided a structure for use in a power driven tool (1) for collecting dust generated by the operation of the tool. The structure includes: an outer housing; a commutation motor (5) disposed within the housing and including a main shaft (6) which has a tip end and a commutator (7) on the main shaft; a pair of brush assemblies (29) radially disposed around, and in contact with, the commutator of the motor; and a dust collecting fan (9) mounted on the main shaft of the commutation motor. The fan is disposed between the commutator and the outer housing. Also included are a dust intake passage (28) formed within the housing and having an intake (27) formed adjacent the location where dust is generated by the operation of the tool; a dust discharge passage (46) formed within the housing and having an outlet; and a dust chamber (43) formed substantially between the outer housing and the commutator for containing the dust collecting fan. The dust chamber has a first connecting portion (35) coupled to the dust intake passage and a second connecting portion (40) coupled to the dust discharge passage. The first and second connecting portions are arranged around the main shaft where they do not overlap the brush assemblies in the axial direction of the main shaft.

7235005 - Belt sander - Owned by Black & Decker Inc. (Newark, DE)

A sander comprised of a high voltage direct current motor for providing rotational torque to the sander is disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a motor housing generally encompasses the motor for enclosure of the motor. The motor housing being generally contoured to be received by a human hand and sized to a generally sized human hand. Further, a sanding assembly is operationally coupled to the motor housing for providing an abrasive surface to be used to sand a desired surface. The use of a voltage direct current motor allows the belt sander to be generally the size of a human hand.

7381118 - Belt sander - Owned by Black & Decker Inc. (Newark, DE)

A belt sander is disclosed that may include a sanding assembly having a first roller and a second roller, the sanding assembly being configured to receive a sanding belt around the first roller and the second roller to define a sanding surface therebetweeen. The belt sander may include a motor operationally coupled to the sanding assembly and opposite the sanding surface, the motor being configured to rotate at least the first roller and thereby rotate the sanding belt around the first roller and the second roller, as well as a handgrip formed around at least a portion of the motor and substantially encasing the motor.
