In the process of permanently waving human hair with a thioglycolic acid or other mercaptan acid solution and rebonding the hair with an oxidizing rebonding agent, the present invention is the improvement comprising contacting the hair with a dye or tint after the reforming solution has been removed from the hair but before the oxidation rebonding is complete. In addition, the improvement preferably comprises admixing a tint or dye into all or a portion of the oxidizing rebonding agent to enable the application of most or all of the rebonding agent and the tint to the hair simultaneously. The oxidizing rebonding agent containing the tint or dye is also claimed.
In a process for the oxidative dyeing of human or animal hair, a hair dyeing agent is prepared immediately before use from at least one oxidation dye and an oxidizing agent, applied to the hair to be dyed, and made to act for a given period of time, whereupon the hair dyeing agent is washed out. The hair dyeing agent that is to be used is prepared from an oxidation dye and the oxidizing agent with the concomitant use of manganese dioxide in powder form, while the finished hair dyeing agent is adjusted to a weakly acid pH in the range from 5.9 to 6.9.
In a method for the oxidative dyeing of human or animal hair a hair dyeing agenet is prepared from at least one oxidation dye in creme or gel form, which is adjusted to a pH of 5.9 to 6.9. The preparation is performed with the addition of at least one alkali metal salt or alkaline earth metal salt as catalyst, which is added simultaneously with or immediately after the mixing of the oxidation dye with the oxidizing agent, the amount added being such that it is contained in the treatment-ready hair dyeing agent in proportions between 0.0001 and 1.00 wt.-%, preferably between 0.0004 and 0.001 wt.-%.

The metal salts used as catalyst are preferably selected from the group containing copper(II) chloride, copper(II) sulfate, cobalt chloride, cerium sulfate and vanadium sulfate.
Simultaneous permanent waving and dyeing of hair fibers is attained by incorporating a silk amino acid and a water soluble or emulsifiable silicone based compound in the permanent waving lotion and intermixing the dyestuff with the oxidizing or neutralizing composition. Preferably, the combined dyeing and neutralizing composition is adjusted to have a pH ranging between about 7 and 9. In this preferred embodiment, the hair is warmed after receiving the combined dyeing and neutralizing composition with said composition preferably being processed on the hair at a temperature ranging between 40.degree. C. and 65.degree. C. In addition, further enhanced coloring and permanent waving is attained by incorporating a lipotropic material into the dye additive composition.
A process for simultaneously cold waving and coloring hair in which the neutralization of the hair waving composition is accomplished in two stages, the second stage of which involves the use of a neutralizing composition containing a hair dye.
