Abstract
A cold weather breathing device which heats and humidifies air to be breathed. A face mask which covers the mouth and nose includes intake and exhaust ports each equipped with a one way valve. An open sided conduit which is U-shaped in section extends in opposite directions from the mask along opposite sides of the head. A corrugated metal partition divides the conduit into side by side intake and exhaust passages. The intake passage is adjacent the open side of the conduit so that incoming air flowing through the intake passage is directly heated and humidified by the face, head and neck. The heat from the exhaled air in the exhaust passage is also transferred to the incoming air through the partition.

5937856 - Breathing device

A breathing device that includes a mouth piece that is insertable into the mouth to improve breathing. The mouth piece has an opening defined therethrough to permit exhaling and inhaling of air. A filter holder is attached at a substantially right angle to the mouth piece and has a channel defined therethrough. A removable filter is disposed inside the channel and comprises a corrugated sheet metal that permits condensation of air on the sheet metal when air is exhaled through the mouth piece and into the filter.

5265592 - Individual protective breathing equipment - Owned by Intertechnique (FR)

An individual breathing equipment comprises a head covering provided with a neck joint defining a space which is separated from the outside all around the head and a mask for isolating the respiratory tract. The mask is provided with a breath-in valve and with a breath-out valve exhausting directly to the atmosphere. The breathable gas feed circuit opens into the space defined by the head covering. The outlet of the feed circuit and the outlet of the breath-in valve for taking air from said space are so located that the breathable gas ventilates the head before reaching the breath-in valve. A buffer volume is placed upstream of the opening into said space, defined by a breastplate.

5511541 - Warm air mask

A warm air mask comprising a facial covering configured to form an upper edge positionable above the nose of a wearer, a lower edge positionable beneath the chin of a wearer, and side edges positionable beyond the ears of a wearer; a plurality of oval inhale ports formed in the covering and extending therethrough, each inhale port including a flap to open with the inhaling of a wearer and to close with the exhaling of a wearer. An exhale port is formed in the covering and extending therethrough, the exhale port including a flap to open with the exhaling of a wearer and to close with the inhaling of a wearer. Further, an array of electrical resistance wires for generating heat when electrically activated, the array being positioned in each inhale port with an associated electrical power source for selectively activating and inactivating the resistance wires.

4787105 - Sleeping bag with snorkel hood and draft curtain - Owned by Burlington Industries, Inc. (Greensboro, NC)

A sleeping bag has upper and lower portions, an access opening in the upper portion, and a breathing opening in the upper portion adjacent one end of the bag. Overlying and spaced from the breathing opening is a snorkel hood where outgoing exhalation is placed in heat and moisture exchange relation with incoming air so that an individual wholly enclosed within the bag may breathe preheated air having substantial moisture content. A curtain is provided along the upper portion adjacent the access opening for engaging about the upper torso of the individual and with the lower portion of the bag to divide and seal the bag into head and body compartments. In warm and cool weather conditions, the individual may sleep with his head exposed to ambient air. In warm weather conditions, the curtain underlies the upper portion above the individual's torso so that air may circulate into the body compartment. In cool weather conditions, the curtain is engaged about the individual's torso to maintain body warmth in the sealed body compartment. In cold weather conditions, the individual's head and torso lie wholly within the head and body compartments with the curtain drawn about the torso to seal and divide the compartments.

5706802 - Cold weather breathing apparatus

A breathing device including a heat exchanger module retained adjacent the mouth of a user by a fabric holder. The heat exchanger module includes a wall surrounding a non-linear, tubular flow passage extending between a first air vent and a second air vent. A heat exchanging medium comprising a woven copper cloth is disposed within the flow passage. The flow passage includes a larger cross-sectional area adjacent the first air vent than adjacent the second air vent.
