A selective call messaging system delivers (602, 604, 606) a master message (324) addressed to a first group of subscriber units (102) and a corresponding records message (326) addressed to a second group of subscriber units. The records message comprises a record (514). A subscriber unit of the second group presents (736) a subscriber-customized group message (332) to a user. The subscriber-customized group message is formed (722, 726, 730, 734) from the master message and from at least one of the record, and local information (328) stored in the subscriber unit.

4928252 - Printing apparatus and method for printing a plurality of pages onto a single sheet - Owned by Digital Equipment Corporation (Maynard, MA)

A method and apparatus for printing multiple pages written in page description format on a single sheet. The invention prints the multiple pages onto the single sheet by dynamically fitting the pages into the usable surface area of the sheet. To achieve the best fit, the invention determines a maximum scale factor for the multiple pages printed onto the sheet. This maximum scale factor is approximated by calculating a sheet layout which occupies the greatest percentage of the usable surface area of the sheet. Additionally, the invention provides for printing multiple pages on successive sheets while allowing the user to specify that margins be located on opposite edges of alternate sheets.

6522790 - Method and apparatus for merging images - Owned by Motorola, Inc. (Schaumburg, IL)

Two document images which have been compressed using the JBIG-2 standard for facsimile applications so as to include a plurality of index numbers, one or more positions in each image associated with the index numbers, and a group symbol for each index number can be merged to form a final composite image. Firstly, two virtual indexed images are formed by patterns of the index numbers at their associated positions in the document images. The patterns of index numbers in the two virtual indexed images are then compared (22) to determine whether there is correlation between the patterns of index numbers in at least parts of the two virtual indexed images. The two virtual indexed images are then merged (25), when there is a sufficient correlation, such that the parts that correlate overlap each other to provide a merged virtual indexed image, and then the index numbers in the merged virtual indexed image are replaced (7) by the corresponding group symbol to provide the final composite image.

5521710 - Method of applying electronically stored labels from a source job to a destination job in a printing system - Owned by Xerox Corporation (Stamford, CT)

There is provided a method of labeling a job in a printing system. The method includes the steps of storing, in memory, a list of electronic labels and displaying, on a display screen, both the list of electronic labels and a print outline with a selected identifiable area. The selected identifiable area is positionable on the print outline for representing a relative size, location and orientation of an area on a print upon which a selected one of the electronic labels is to be printed, and the displaying step includes applying a grid to the list so that a series of cells is superposed relative to the the electronic labels. In operation, a first location at which a copy of the selected electronic label is to be printed on a selected one of a plurality of prints is indicated and a plurality of prints, with the selected electronic label printed on the selected print at the first location, is produced when all of the selected electronic label is disposed in a selected one of the series of cells.
