Abstract
A trackless, center-pivot underground vehicle is described, which has a tractor section, which is driven by an electric motor, which is powered via a sliding contact line, a current collector device, which is movable along the contact line line, and a supply cable, which is electrically and mechanically connected to the current collector device and adapted to be unwound from a reel against a restoring force. An improved mobility of the vehicle and a large width range throughout the range of travel are ensured by the combination of the following features: a. the supply cable is connected to the current collector device by a slip ring member, which is rotatable about a vertical axle; b. a helically winding cable reel is mounted on the tractor section and rotatable about a vertical axle, which is provided with a slip ring member; c. a guide arm is coaxially arranged with respect to the cable reel and adapted to be pivotally movable by hydraulic means; and d. a hydrostatic axial piston transmission is coupled to a three-phase a.c. motor.

5593010 - Process and device for supplying energy to workstations circulating on a chain - Owned by Maschinenfabrik Hennecke GmbH (Leverkusen,DE)

A process for the simultaneous, constantly available provision of amounts of energy and/or signal-transmission media to a plurality of workstations circulating in the shape of an oval is described. A supply line, connected to all the workstations, is circulated with workstations. Energy and/or signal-transmissions are fed through a trailing cable which is connected to a rotary linkage which is capable of travelling back and forth on a rail within the oval in the longitudinal direction of the oval and from the rotary linkage to the supply line.

4878607 - Apparatus for unreeling a cable - Owned by Less Micanik Inc. (Quebec,CA)

The present disclosure describes an apparatus for unreeling a cable. The apparatus comprises a drawing mechanism for unreeling the cable. This drawing mechanism includes a motor provided with a shaft, a disk having its center rigidly locked to the shaft, the disk being provided with three pins perpendicular to its surface, and a wheel having its center positioned around the shaft by means of a ball bearing. The wheel has one of its lateral sides adjacent to the disk surface provided with the pins, the side of the wheel being provided with three slots extending circumferentially for receiving the three pins in such a manner that phase displacement is allowed between the disk and the wheel. Three springs are provided for keeping each pin against the forward extremity of its respective slot. The circumference of the wheel is covered by a resilient friction-surface adapted to squeeze the cable against a rotative guiding roller which allows unreeling of the cable by rotative movement of the wheel. The apparatus also comprises a hydraulic cylinder for applying the wheel against the rotative guiding roller, and a detecting and controlling mechanism for detecting a phase displacement between the wheel and the disk, and, upon detection of such phase displacement, activating the motor, when the cable is in a rest position, or disabling the motor when the cable is unreeling.

5810134 - Underground energy-supply train - Owned by Ruhrkohle AG (Essen,DE)

An energy supply train for under-ground mining has several universal transport unit frames (UTU frames) (1) inter-connected by drawbars and useful as elements of a suspended monorail. At least one of the U68TU frames carries a heavy-duty transformer and at least another UTU frame carries a compact station (4, 5) arranged in a pressure-resistant housing (2, 3) with switchgear (13, 14, 15, 16) for supplying electric energy to underground working means and with electric connection devices (10, 11) at the input and output side of the pressure-resistant housing (2, 3). Each UTU frame (1) carries two compact stations (4, 5) mechanically interconnected by a box (6) and electrically interconnected by electric lines (17) that extend through said box (6) so as to form a single device. The electric connection devices are verified by means of authorised power outlets directly arranged on the walls of the pressure-resistant housings (2, 3) of the compact stations (4, 5).

5297661 - Power supply means for electrically operated apparatuses and a switch for the power supply means - Owned by Tamrock Oy (Tampere,FI)

A trolley-type power supply means and a turntable switch for moving apparatuses such as mining equipment. The switch is provided with two coupling portions installed in parallel with each other and reversely symmetrical with respect to a turning axis. By using coupling portions, a trolley can be turned in a desired direction or shunted from the trolley track to allow another trolley to pass by.

5495157 - Cable reeling system - Owned by Metool Products Limited (GB2)

A cable reel system for use in conjunction with a mobile installation movable relative to a fixed base station and being connected to the fixed base station via a cable, the system comprising a reel on which the cable is stored, the reel being connected by a motor shaft to an AC motor which drives the reel via reduction means to pay-out cable whilst the mobile installation moves away from the base station and to reel-in cable whilst the mobile installation moves towards the base station, the reel system further comprising sensing means located adjacent said motor shaft and operable to provide a signal representative of the position of the motor shaft, and a controller, which receives the signal and calculates a torque demand signal, the controller further continually varying a stator current of the motor in response to cable paying-out or reeling-in operating conditions pertaining at a given instant by using the torque demand signal to calculate and supply phase currents to the motor to provide a required torque at the motor shaft for maintaining tension of the cable extending between the mobile installation and the fixed base station within a predetermined range of values.
