Abstract
To enable a passenger to ride a "roller coaster" in a standing position, the inventive device includes a seat placed between the legs of the passenger, a back member with a headrest incorporated in it, and two harnesses which provide retention of the passenger from above as well as lateral retention of his head and good front and lateral retention of his body. One of the harnesses is movable and can be swung upwardly to enable easy access to the subject device by the passenger and to enable a ventral bar to be brought into tight contact with the passenger's abdomen before being locked shut in that position. Because the sliding carriage which bears the two harnesses, the back member and the seat are displaceable and lockable along the columns which have their base fixed to the chassis of the train, the present invention can accommodate passengers of different heights and sizes and reliably retain such passengers regardless of their orientation in space during the operation of the associated roller coaster.

5758582 - Device for restraining people on a moving unit

A restraining device for restraining a passenger on a moving unit includes a passenger body enveloping unit having two side components each having a front end and a back end. The back end of each of the side components is joined to hinges fixed in an upper portion of a back of a seat of the moving unit, and the front end of each of the side components are connected together to form a space for enveloping the passenger. A transverse component rigidly fastened to the passenger body enveloping unit rests against the passenger's thighs when the passenger body enveloping unit envelops the passenger. A lock unit restrains the passenger body enveloping unit after the transverse component has come to rest against the passenger's thighs such that the passenger body enveloping unit envelops the passenger in an area of the passenger's forearms and belly.

5433153 - Amusement track ride system with helical spinning section having locking restraints and enhanced passenger view - Owned by Togo Japan Inc. (Tokyo,JP)

An amusement track ride system comprises a pair of rails forming a track including a spinning section. A car traveling along the rails includes a chassis, a passenger seat on the chassis, and a plurality of wheel portions situated close to the feet of a passenger in a passenger seat. In the spinning section, the rails extend in a helix along an inner surface of an imaginary cylinder having a central axis, the diameter of the imaginary cylinder being set so that the axis of helical rotation of the car traveling in a spin along the rails passes through the car and is substantially in alignment with the central axis of the imaginary cylinder. The holding device has a shoulder retainer provided at the back rest for holding down the shoulders of the passenger in the passenger seat from above. The retainer is guided by a guide mechanism to be movable in the extending direction of the seat back rest, and locked by a locking mechanism in a position where the retainer abuts against the passenger's shoulders.

7513575 - Shoulder- and neck holder

A shoulder- and/or neck-holder, seat-belt, seat and sets of vibration-dampening energy-absorbers are integrated into an energy-absorbing, vibration-dampening safety-seat in order to restrain the shoulders and/or neck of a belted passenger, dampen vibrations and gradually absorb subenergies, resulting from a subdivision of the total energy, just below the respective injury-irrelevant threshold-values in any real-world accident of a transport-system, submarining or during in-flight turbulence. The conversion of an adult-seat into a child-seat or a baby-cot or vice-versa is simple. A rotatable device makes the holder easy to use.Neck- and/or shoulder-shaped, height-, width-adjustable holders and/or neck- and/or shoulder-shaped energy absorbers, attached thereto, ensure complete restraint of the shoulders and necks of passengers with different weights and body-proportions.For the convenience of the passenger or in cases of emergency all latch-plates are disengaged from the buckle-assemblies and/or the rotatable holder is repositioned to the resting position on depression of a master release-button.

6494145 - Automatic crossbar on ski chair-lift for facilitating passenger dismount

An automatic crossbar on a ski chair-lift for containing seated passengers and facilitating dismounting passengers. A vertically elongated bar (20) with a cross (20a) attached at its base is pivotably suspended from a passenger chair, positioning the crossbar in front of passengers. An elastic closure attachment (9), and/or an automatic locking mechanism (60), is attached between the elongated bar and the chair to retain the crossbar in a closed position and contain passengers. A blocking structure (200) is suspended proximal to the aerial cable above the landing platform. The elongated bar has an upper portion (20v) above its pivotal mount (21b) which impacts the blocking structure as the aerial cable moves the chair forward. The impact causes the upper portion to rotate back as the lower portion and crossbar are levered forward and upward. As the crossbar swings forward from the chair, passengers grasp the crossbar to balance with while standing onto the landing platform.

6467728 - Aircraft passenger cabin with a stand for transporting a passenger in an upright position - Owned by Airbus Deutschland GmbH (Hamburg,DE) Deutsche Lufthansa AG (Cologne,DE)

Passengers are transported in a cabin of a passenger aircraft in an upright position. For this purpose the aircraft cabin is equipped with passenger stands. Each stand has a passenger backing and a safety belt, preferably a three-point safety belt. The stands are positioned in a standing room area of the cabin which has a sufficient vertical clearance between floor and ceiling for accommodating passengers in the upright position. The passenger backing has preferably a shell-shape forming a back support as a lean-against portion and at least one side portion for privacy. The shell or flat backing wall may itself be connected either directly or through a post for an angular adjustment relative to the forward flight direction.
