Abstract
The invention describes a cutter which is for positioning in an underground pipe which is too small for man entry. The cutter is for cutting holes in previously applied pipe lining which cover lateral connections. The cutting must be controlled from above ground. Flexibility and positionability is achieved by mounting the cutter head at the free end of a boom body, the other end of which is mounted through a universal joint to a mounting so that the boom can swing in any direction. The cutter is controlled in its movement by coupling it to a master unit located and controlled above ground.

5155941 - Industrial endoscope system having a rotary treatment member - Owned by Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. (Tokyo,JP)

Disclosed is an industrial endoscope system having a rotary treatment member, attached to a hard top part at a distal end of an insertion unit, for effecting a treatment such as grinding by rotating this treatment member itself. The system includes a moving means for making a distal end of the treatment member movable in the axial directions of the insertion unit. This easily leads the treatment member to a target position via a lead-in port of an engine; or the treatment member can be set in a position suitable for the treatment.

4785512 - Machine for repairing and sealing conduits

The invention in question is a repairing machine, which is suited to repairing damaged conduits which are inaccessible for repair work. This repairing machine is remote-controlled and monitored with television cameras. At the head of the driving carriage, various devices, which are necessary for the repairs, can be attached to a motor-driven rotatable toolhead. A simple construction of the movable head has made it possible to accomplish all of the necessary movements with uncomplicated mechanics, and at the same time, to forego a tedious slide coupling for the control lines without letting them get tangled with the device. Therefore, with this invention, the production costs for the whole device could be lowered and, likewise, the proneness to repairs could be reduced.

4809775 - I-T-H pipe cutting tool - Owned by INCO Limited (Toronto,CA)

A pipe cutting tool especially adapted to cut the interior of in-the-hole (I-T-H) drill pipe to allow subsequent removal of the pipe above the cut. Due to blasting damage, long sections of I-T-H pipe, otherwise in good condition, cannot be removed because the damaged section prevents the removal of the entire drill string. The tool is adapted to receive power from an external source and includes a frame, a pivoted motor and cutter, and an actuator for pivoting the motor.

5054187 - Method and means for remote-controlled sheathing installation when renovating pipelines - Owned by Sika Robotics AG (Grunginen,CH)

This invention is a new method and at the same time a new piece of equipment for the renovation of damaged pipelines in which formation of fragments has come about or the pipelines have partly been completely destroyed. The machine can be fitted to a channel renovation robot or to a conventional luge and can be remote controlled with television support. With the machine, which has a simple locking mechanism (4), a metal sheathing (11) is inserted into the interior of the pipe. The sheathing is ejected there in order to repair a damaged point or a missing piece of pipe, whereupon a sealing mass is pressed onto the outside through holes in the sheathing.

5960882 - Dual-ended apparatus for cutting openings in lined conduits - Owned by Insituform (Netherlands) B.V. (NL)

A motor with a single driven shaft and double-ended collet is attached to a movable work unit for cutting laterals in a lined pipeline. The motor is preferably operated by an operator at a remote location. The motor attaches to the front arm of the extension ram of a typical remote work unit, which can index at least 180.degree. relative to the unit. The work unit is positioned in an existing conduit lined with a synthetic liner at the location of a lateral and a cutter bit at one end of the shaft is used to cut an aperture through the liner. The cutter bit is retracted radially without displacing the work unit, and the motor is indexed circumferentially 180.degree. relative to the extension ram. This positions the finishing bit at the other end of the shaft to trim the edges of the aperture, and the finishing bit is then retracted radially. The underground work unit can then be withdrawn from the pipe.
