6-Hydroxy-2-(2-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)benzofuran derivatives and related pharmaceutical compositions and methods of treatment are disclosed. The compounds are useful as inhibitors of mammalian leukotriene biosynthesis. As such, they are useful therapuetic agents for treating allergic conditions, asthma, cardiovascular disorders and inflammation.
The present invnetion relates to a compositon for topical application for regulating wrinkles in mammalian skin comprising a benzofuran derivative having the structure ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each independently methyl or ethyl, R.sup.3 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, y is an integer from 1 to about 3 and each X is independently selected from the group consisting of Cl, Br, I, F, NO.sub.3, NO.sub.4, SO.sub.3 and SO.sub.4, and a safe and effective amount of a topical carrier.
Cytoprotective compounds, many of which are benzofuran derivatives are useful in the treatment of certain ischemic or inflammatory conditions, including but not limited to stroke, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, and skin disorders characterized by inflammation or oxidative damage. They are also useful in the manufacture of pharmaceutical and cosmetic formulations for the treatment of such conditions.
Certain benzofuran derivatives are useful in the treatment of certain ischemic or inflammatory conditions, as well as neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration or degenerative diseases in which mitochondrial dysfunction leads to tissue degeneration. They are also useful in the manufacture of pharmaceutical formulations for the treatment of such conditions.
