Abstract
Disclosed is a flat panel display control apparatus which has the same number of dots as those of a CRT display device in the vertical and horizontal directions, has compatibility with the CRT display device, and displays each character by a plurality of dots in a matrix form. The flat panel display control apparatus has a video memory for storing character codes of characters to be displayed, a pattern generator for generating a character pattern corresponding to the character code generated from the video memory, an attribute data memory for storing attribute data for each character stored in the video memory, and an attribute controller for reading out the character pattern and the attribute data thereof so as to superimpose on the character pattern a lateral stripe pattern which repeatedly moves downward in a dot matrix constituting the character pattern when the attribute data indicates a high-light level of high-brightness display.

5642136 - Method and apparatus for screen refresh bandwidth reduction for video display modes - Owned by VLSI Technology, Inc. (San Jose, CA)

In a text mode of a display controller, for each character of the text, a plurality of multiple-byte words are stored in a memory buffer. Each multiple-byte word contains an ASCII character code for the character, font attribute information for the character and at least one font line for the character. For each character font line to be displayed on the monitor, a multiple byte word is read. The attribute information and a first character font line are extracted from the multiple byte word. The display controller then constructs a character scan line for the character based on the attribute information and the first character font line. The character scan line may then be displaying on the monitor.

5625375 - Method and apparatus for a multiple font display - Owned by Lucent Technologies Inc. (Murray Hill, NJ)

A method and apparatus for displaying more than one font on a limited dot matrix display device are disclosed. In addition to displaying characters in a standard font based on using all pixels in a five by seven pixel matrix, a custom font set based on a reduced size pixel matrix is used for character display. A maximum of four columns and six rows of pixels, i.e., a four by six matrix, are used for the custom font out of the five columns and seven rows of pixels which are available. In further embodiments of the invention, the pixels which are not used to create a character may be used to add a background characteristic. Thus a reverse video font or underlining font may be created. In an additional embodiment, a box can be placed around a word by using the underline font in conjunction with placing a vertical line immediately before the first character and immediately after the last character of a word to be placed in a box.

6633687 - Method and apparatus for image contrast modulation - Owned by Intel Corporation (Santa Clara, CA)

An apparatus for image contrast modulation includes a memory for storing a scaling factor and a memory for storing a pixel position. A pixel determiner calculates the position of another pixel based upon the pixel position and the scaling factor. A segment determiner ascertains which segment of the segmented line contains the pixel position. A coefficient generator determines which coefficient is associated with the line segment. A method for image contrast modulation includes defining at least one multi-segmented line that approximates a higher order curve including more than one pixel in a source image, and line-fitting pixel intensity values in a scaled image according to a multi-segmented line.

6061047 - Method and apparatus for clipping text - Owned by Chips & Technologies, Inc. (San Jose, CA)

A method of generating a graphical image, such as a font, is described in which expansion data for an image portion that is not to be written is never added to source data for such portion.

5285192 - Compensation method and circuitry for flat panel display - Owned by Chips and Technologies, Inc. (San Jose, CA) ASCII Corporation (Tokyo,JP)

A video controller for a personal computing system. The controller compensates CRT video information to generate a display compatible with a flat panel device. The controller includes registers and logic circuits which compensate CRT address information. The compensated addresses are used to repeat lines of display, insert blank lines between lines of display, center a display, and force font types.
