1,2,3,4-Tetrahydro-1,1,4,4-tetramethyl-6-(alpha-methylstyryl)naphthalene possesses antikeratinizing, antiinflammatory and immunomodulatory properties and can be used in the treatment or prevention of dermatoses which are accompanied by a pathological cornification as well as inflammatory, autoimmune, rheumatic and allergic illnesses.
Novel aromatic polycyclic retinoid-type derivatives of general formula (I), ##STR1## wherein groupings R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 attached to the double bond between carbons 11 and 12 are cis groupings, and pharmaceutical and cosmetic compositions containing same, are disclosed.
